A nice guy, but...

It has been a year since my divorce, and I am just now able to express my frustrations. Briefly: 1) I made a video of the work I had to do solo at the barn, caring for 6 horses. I do not know that he ever showed the judge the video-only 5 minutes long, but explained a lot; 2) He asked my ex-wife for ...an inventory of what she took from the house (everything). She never complied and the value of those items was never considered in resolving money owed to her; 3) She never provided information in financial disclosure and he never obtained this. I was the one who found out about undisclosed cash and forced that amount ($20,000) to be shared; 4) Especially at the end, Randy was unresponsive to emails and calls. He blamed his lapse in responding (of several weeks) on an email problem he was having. Maybe, but the problem was always present. There were other problems, but in summation, I am sure Randy knows the law, but I never felt he was advocating for me. There was never a meeting to try and work things out until the day of trial, when I was faced with losing everything I had left if I did not agree to terms to which I had minimal input. At $400 an hour, I expected a more vigorous defense and responsiveness.

It is unfortunate that this client, whom I enjoyed representing, is dissatisfied a year after his divorce. Videos, and other evidence, are typically only presentable to a judge if there is a trial. This client, Jack, voluntarily chose to settle his case without a trial, and did end up with a result likely better for him than a trial would have provided. This case involved horses, which the law recognizes as property. Jack and I fought for, and received, a resolution that allowed Jack to retain possession of the horses, with whom he was bonded, and further receive financial credit for expenses he incurs caring for them. Jack received aggressive representation, as all my clients, at a rate less than the $400 he has inaccurately suggested.

Negligent practices

Withholds important information just to drag your case out so he can charge you more money never returns calls and doesn’t say a word in the courtroom he doesn’t care about you as a client at all

DO NOT HIre

Do not hire this team. His co-council represented me for child custody and now I have to pay another because NOTHING in my custody orders can be used for contempt when he is not following it. They knew my wishes and I ended up with much WORSE outcomes then even before. They also charged me for child ...support paperwork that they KNEW they could not even assist with. they convinced me I needed to get orders and I wasted 6,000 dollars. Do NOT HIRE.

Unfortunately, attorneys can not anticipate breaches of agreements by either party. Courts remain available for parents to petition for enforcement, or to claim violations, and the Courts have authority to impose appropriate relief.

Not Recommended

I found myself going through a divorce, only to find the attorney I hired, Randy Margulis, was dishonest and lacked in preparation. Constantly delayed the divorce, taking over 15 months and costing over $19k. On a divorce that had no kids. I caught him in several lies, by watching the emails f...rom the other attorney. Also, was not prepared at final hearing when Judge asked him amounts or if he had proper spread sheet.

It is unfortunate that this client did not have a positive divorce experience. Their case was delayed, in large part, by their months-long unwillingness to move forward with an agreed upon sale listing of their home. It was further delayed by a fire which devoured much of the home two days after it was finally listed, and which they were suspected by many of intentionally starting! As to the spread sheet issue, which was deemed unnecessary, lawyers can only rely upon information provided by our clients.

I would move on if you want an actual advocate for you or your child

The title says it all. I am sure he will come on here and argue, but he needs to look in the mirror.

Private attorneys do not represent children. The Courts, where necessary, appoint lawyers for the kids. Unfortunately, this potential client was right-you can not hire your child's attorney.

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
