Extremely Dissatisfied

All of the reviews that I have seen for Karen are similar, and we experienced the same challenges upon the closing of our house. During the entire process, Karen would not provide updates, which was unfortunate as she was falling behind on everything. She made up several excuses, blaming the seller's... attorney for the delays, although she refused to show any initiative to get answers. One time I had called her personally just for a status update, and she left me feeling as though I was bothering her and wasn't a valued client. After telling me she would call later that day with an update, she "butt-dialed" me and pretended to not know who I was. She did not call back for the remainder of the process. She refused to move with any sense of urgency and was even trying to push the closing date back. When the closing arrived, she did not even show up as she was "travelling." She had sent her partner, Jeff Mavagern, who was very cordial and explained a lot in-person, which Karen had no ambition to do. The straw that broke the camel's back for us was receiving a call about three weeks after closing. Karen informed us that our check had bounced, and that she was "very concerned" as the services had been paid for by her firm already, even threatening legal action against us. I know that this was a mistake on our part, but we do not keep a large balance in our checking accounts at a time, and the money had been spent given how long it had taken them to cash the check (we assumed that it was cashed the day of closing or by the following week). Karen continued threatening us over the phone and through email, even telling us she would void a replacement check that we were to send in the mail. She demanded that we go to her office in-person to deliver the check, which was an inconvenience to our schedule. Do not hire this attorney. She fails to communicate, lacks urgency, does not care for the client, and becomes extremely hostile over simple mistakes.

Horrible experience!!!

I got a buyer for the sale of my house, & was happy that it was going to be a cash deal. Karen Scott told me that it would be a "quick process" this way, & would only take about 4 weeks max to close. Well here I am 10 weeks later, incredibly disgusted. The so-called quick process took double the t...ime, with no clear explanation as to why & what was going on. Every time I would call the office, I would either have to leave a message or be told from the secretary that Karen would call me back the same day, or early the next morning. I would sometimes wait a full week for a call back, feeling left in the dark and unimportant as a client. I would also get fake promises from her about certain issues, and when asked about them, would always get the same answer: "next week, next week, next week this will be done". I also didn't feel that this firm was professional at all; her secretary was always telling me how busy & bogged down she was because she had so much paperwork to do before she could get to mine. How is her incompetence my problem?! She should be telling her boss this, not me. So after much frustration and more confusion, the buyer skipped town never to be heard from again. I lost the deal & feel that it was their fault that this happened. They took way too long for something that should've been done in 4/5 weeks and the buyer got sick of it and took off. I really wish I would've read these poor reviews & done better research before doing business with this firm. It would have saved me a world of stress & aggravation. If you want an easy closing process & a lawyer that is on top of things, please do not go to Karen Scott.

Would not use her services in the future.

I had a poor experience with Karen Scott Esq. Always felt "out of the loop" and was notified last minute of things (like being told I had to do my final walk through 22hrs before it had to be completed by!). She also raised her rates suddenly (from $500 to $600). When issues did come up we had to ...just "accept" them (like paying for the previous owners to live in the house for a week after we closed and have to pay for my stuff to stay in a storage unit!). Would not recommend her.

Unsatisfatory Results

If you have no issues with your closing, there should be no problems with you and this attorney. Once problems arise, the attorney will do whatever it takes to close the deal quickly for the benefit of realtors and attorneys, i.e. getting paid. Things were handled very unprofessionally and it often f...elt that the attorney was speaking down to me as the client. The attorney failed to mention my rights during the process of closing and kept this information hidden so that the closing would continue to go quickly without disruption. Very disappointed with the quality of service and interaction from this attorney.
