Thomas Brereton Hughes

Mr. Hughes currently practices in many different fields of law at HoganWillig, including third party collection matters; defense from federal and state regulatory enforcement actions; contract drafting and negotiation; corporate matters regarding formation, restructuring, and dissolution of businesses; and, finally, as a general business consultant for existing clients. Mr. Hughes is certified to practice in New York as a Member of the Bar Association of Erie County as well as the New York State Bar Association.

Thomas is also a veteran of the United States Air Force where he served as an intelligence analyst during Operation Iraqi Freedom. During his service, he received an A.A. in Arabic Language Studies from the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, CA; later, he went on to receive a B.S., cum laude, in Business Administration at the University at Buffalo in 2009. He obtained his Juris Doctor from St. John's University School of Law in 2013.

Before obtaining his J.D., Mr. Hughes also gained considerable legal experience in his completion of a judicial internship in the New York City Criminal Court under Honorable Matthew Sciarrino, as well as conducting research as a student fellow at the Ronald H. Brown Center for Civil Rights & Economic Justice. He also worked under a six-month internship program in the legal office of NATO Supreme HQ Allied Powers Europe in Mons, Belgium, expanding his knowledge in international legal affairs. Upon his return, he served as Vice President of the Armed Forces Law Society at St. John's University. Thomas maintains his military commitment today as an active member of the American Legion.

During his time abroad, Thomas also contributed to a number of articles, with an impressive range of topics from NATO-Pakistani legal relations to interpretations of eyewitness testimony within New Jersey and New York State. After law school, Mr. Hughes worked in a large company where he specialized in regulatory compliance and contract law. Mr. Hughes's varied background has granted him success in a myriad of different fields, within the legal profession, and above all, with our clients.
