Matthew Toporowski is an experienced litigator and trial attorney. His practice is split between the areas of commercial litigation and plaintiff’s personal injury. He has represented business owners and shareholders in disputes involving breach of contract, breach of fiduciary duties, fraud, theft of trade secrets and non-compete agreements. The subject matter of these disputes is as varied as the geographic location or forum where it has occurred and has included polymers, mutual funds, hedge funds, advertising, bridal startups and more. He has represented clients before the American Arbitration Association (AAA), the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) and in state and federal courts throughout New York. As a member of the Firm’s complex commercial litigation practice group and trial team, he often litigates in courts of other states as well on behalf of clients’ interstate interests.
Matt also litigates personal injury cases on behalf of individuals harmed by the negligent acts of others. This includes medical malpractice, automobile accidents and products liability issues resulting in serious injuries, traumatic brain injuries, spinal damage, nerve damage, life-altering injuries as well as wrongful death claims. As a former law clerk to the New York State Appellate Division and assistant district attorney in Albany County, Matt successfully litigates, conducts trials and defends verdicts on appeal when necessary on behalf of his clients.
Matt invests his spare time in his community. He is on the boards of the New York Capital Region Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and Green Tech High Charter School. He currently serves as the President of the Ten Broeck Triangle Preservation League, the neighborhood association of the City of Albany’s second oldest neighborhood, the Ten Broeck Triangle. He completed Ironman Lake Placid in 2015, and qualified for the 70.3 Ironman World Championship in 2017.

I find most attorney's expensive and indulgent - Matthew is a rare exception
Hired Matthew for a felony case and he had a good grasp of the case, the police mindset, and the court and the likely outcome immediately. He showed up at the court a day later, and early to do the meeting with the prosecutor and was able to get it dismissed before I arrived. His rates were reasonabl...
"I've had the pleasure of working with Attorney Toporowski on multiple occasions and every time I am impressed with his work ethic, the zealous representation of his clients, and his personality in the courtroom. I am happy to endorse this lawyer."
"I have known Matt for several years. My first experience with him was when he was an Assistant DA, and he always comported himself with a wisdom and sensitivity beyond his years. Now, he is a fellow criminal defense attorney, and he has carried the best character traits with him, coupled with the experience to handle the challenges of defending the accused. I recommend him."
"Matt is a great attorney. He is intelligent, hard working, and excellent with clients. He is a tireless advocate, and genuinely cares about the outcome of his cases. That's rare in today's practice and what sets him apart from the competition. For those reasons, and many more, I highly recommend Matt for your commercial litigation and criminal law needs."
