He is not what he says

I hired him to represent me in a drawing up a separation agreement. He neglected several key elements. I would not recommend this man.

Compassionate and Experienced Attorney

I found Bruce after a recommendation from another attorney. The law firm is small and very experienced. I felt Bruce really got the information he needed and went to bat for my daughter and I. Everyone says their ex is "crazy" but we are dealing with a very abusive man. The case itself is complex... and involves interstate custody. I felt able to convey my fear and experience and was met with empathy. Bruce and his partner were easy to talk to, open to questions and kind. They were also very honest and straightforward. I highly recommend this firm if you seek quality representation. There are a lot of lawyers that don't have the intelligence, patience and experience as Bruce and his partner.

AVOID at all Costs; Waste of Time & Money; Pretend to be Caring & Nice. ONLY CARES FOR BILLABLE HOURS.

Both Bruce and his wife Robin will come off as VERY NICE. I went to Bruce in April of 2015 to help me get unsupervised visitation in regards to my daughter currently living in NY. Bruce lied to me and assured that he would be able to get me unsupervised visitation and show cause of parental alienat...ion but soon after my first hearing he ABANDONED me. I signed an agreement with Bruce where I deposited an initial retainer amount and then a monthly plan. He advised me initially that my case should not cost me more than $3k-$5k. He charged $450/hr but he had already reached my retainer amount prior to the initial hearing w/ his false charges. I had requested Bruce to file a petition for unsupervised visitation & parental alienation case against my ex-wife because she was violating the visitation order consistently and I even showed him evidence where she was interfering. Bruce acknowledged that there was parental alienation but when he filed the petition in court he did not include parental alienation. This guy misinformed so many times. He just simply said this is not necessary for the initial hearing. After my first hearing that was in July 2015 he showed up late first of all, then just sat there & looked pretty without defending me. He did not vouch for me when my ex-wife's attorney was bashing me nor did he bring any documentation with him regarding my case. When I met him in his office he would pretend to be attentive and take huge amounts of notes. He came unprepared to the court hearing after showing up late he reports to me that we need to amend the original petition to show cause for parental alienation. To amend the order he wanted to charge me extra money when I had originally advised him to do so. He just wanted to rack up his billable hours. Before the initial court hearing I had requested Bruce to arrange for me to attend my daughter's kindergarten graduation. He quickly agreed to do the agreement but then over charged me over $1500.00; Then later advised that I should not go & attend my daughter's graduation. He did not WARN me beforehand that I should not go because my ex wife could raise an issue since my hearing was coming up BUT then billed me for creating the agreement with outrageous fees. When I questioned him on the invoice via email I never received a response from his end nor from his firm. Any time that I would call Bruce he would say "HE DOESN'T KNOW THE ANSWER" and did whatever he felt like doing with my case then billing me for it. He also contacted my ex wife's attorney constantly as he felt like it and then billed me for the hours when I had advised him in advance not to communicate with him. After my 1st hearing I was very disappointed in how Mr. Guttman came in late to court and was unprepared. I questioned him on his ability to be able to handle my case and that's when he started not to return my calls or texts to his cellphone. He advised me incorrectly from the beginning and when I questioned him on a few items regarding my case going on forward; he sent a letter saying that he is terminating his contract with me. STAY AWAY FROM THE GUTTMANS. THEY WILL LURE YOU IN BY BEING VERY NICE! I was so confused and had to hire a new attorney. He is still trying to BILL ME FOR HIS OWN MISTAKES

Postnuptial Agreement

I hired Bruce to represent me for a postnuptial agreement. I must say that I am highly satisfied. He was very professional, personable, and knowledgeable about the laws. I will recommend him.

Top-Tier Representation with that Personal Touch

Matrimonial lawyers do not as a group enjoy a good reputation - Bruce H. Guttman is the exception. I hired the Guttman Law Group under extremely difficult circumstances, totally blindsided by an aggressive divorce action. I was referred to Mr. Guttman by a trusted friend who himself was a very satisf...ied client. From the start, he took his time to really understand my situation so as to provide guidance that would see me and my children through to an outcome that would be as just, fair and appropriate as possible. When it comes to divorce, "winning" a case looks different for everyone, so I came to trust Mr. Guttman's guidance at every turn because he invested himself on every level, with regard to what would be best for me - and my children - not just from a legal standpoint but with a sincere understanding of and respect for the profound emotional, psychological and financial implications of each and every action. What has made this balance between careful consideration of each detail and Big Picture thinking possible is the Guttman team approach of Mr. Guttman and his wife Robin. Together they are both always accessible and at every step they made me feel as though I was their only client. Most important to me is the ethical way in which the Guttmans handled every aspect; even when faced with what I would consider to be unscrupulous tactics of opposing counsel, they never responded in kind. Aggression is not to be mistaken for strength, and Bruce Guttman knows the difference. I believe people tend to find themselves with representation that reflects their own personalities, and so I am eternally grateful that in my time of need, my friend pointed me in the right direction. Their understanding of my particular needs and objectives has made progress efficient, allowing us to discern what is and what is not worth focusing on, and absent this, it's easy to see how a more generic and reactive approach would easily cost twice as much.  Bruce and Robin know how important their work is - how lives depend on them - and the seriousness and unerring dedication with which they approach their work reflects this awareness.  Giving a new meaning to attorney-client privilege, it is a privilege and an honor to know and be represented by Bruce Guttman and the Guttman Law Group.
