Before going to law school, I ran an event production company. I chose to go into law for two reasons: I was bored with the business once it became successful, needing greater intellectual stimulation, and I'd always had a strong sense of justice. I had started my own business because I couldn't get a job with my psychology degree. While I seriously considered going to school for a PhD in Industrial Psychology, I was drawn more to law.
The sale of my company, though a largely successful undertaking, prompted my first experience in commercial litigation. From that experience, I understand what my clients go through; it's time-consuming, expensive and frustrating. I strive to do all I can to minimize these inherent effects on my clients.
As a child, I had watched and taken part in my father's many entrepreneurial endeavors. He had several printing companies, a mail order business, been a real estate broker and even had a pizza truck (the only one of it's kind). When I wasn't working for my father, I was in business for myself, running carnivals and lemonade stands every summer and I had a paper route. I have much respect for the small business owner.
When I'm not lawyering, I spend time with my friends and family. I especially enjoy relaying stories and jokes together. Based on what I learned as a semi-professional poker player, I often approach a case scenario the same way I played in a high stakes poker game - at least in terms of sizing-up the opposition and evaluting the odds of winning. I try to follow the sound advice of someone much smarter than me: "You have to learn the rules of the game. And then you have to play better than anyone else." Albert Einstein.
