Worst Lawyer, Stay Away!

I hired Jonathan to handle my divorce and split share of my house back in 2023. In the beginning, he was very responsive and seemed very confident this case would be very quick and easy to handle. He let me know about all of the steps he would take to get this case moving and it made me feel comforta...ble. Once a month or so went by, I couldn't reach Jonathan on the phone at his office or cell phone, text messages, emails, etc. Every time I was told about a court date, I was always left in the dark. I didn't know what the next step was, there was absolutely NO communication, it was like pulling teeth to get an answer. When I finally did get him on the phone, I was never able to get a word in, and I was always rushed off of the phone. Things he would explain that were being done, was never done. For example, he said he needed information for my Ex husband to serve him, told me he was served on said date, and I find out a month or so later that he never was. I was also waiting a long time for the conformation of my divorce. After trying to get in touch with him about the progress, he said, "Oh your divorced already, since said date." I asked to send over the divorce paperwork and the date is about 2 months off from the date he had told me. I was extremely confused and he just said "Your divorced, that's it. That's finished." I never got a straight answer from him. It left me completely stressed and in the dark about the whole situation. Never did I think it was going to be that stressful. I tried to give him the benefit of the doubt to make things right and it just got worse and worse. I had to spend another few thousand dollars to hire another lawyer that got everything done and situated in a couple of months. I couldn't get anything out of Jonathan and wasted 1-1/2 - 2 years on absolutely nothing. I had to spend my money twice for one job. I'm highly disappointed in Jonathan and his work and I will never use him or recommend him to anyone I know.

THE BEST DECISION IVE MADE

Where to even start... ive been taken advantage by other lawyers who took my profession as a pay day, past two lawyers did nothing but take money. 1yr of family court and they didnt file any paperwork they were hired for, i contactes Mr.edwards firm explained my situation best way i can.. Mr.Edwards... understood my position, said and i qoute "we're getting your son back" this statement was made exactly 48days ago..since then Mr.edwards has eliminated Supervised visits leaned against me. Where i was subject to see my son 2hrs on Thursday and 2hrs on friday. Total travel time was 7hr to 8hrs. For those 2 days. I did that for almost a yr. Mr.edwards understood the importance of my case and how much my son means to me.. how my son has been in foster house for almost a yr.. as i qouted Mr.edwards... he eliminated the supervised visits in his 1st court date, i get to spend the entire weekend and every weekend with my son, i even have the rights to drop my son to school... im so thankful for Mr.edwards expertise, Legit the Best Lawyer.. My case isnt over yet. But i know Full victory is in sight by may/june i will have full custody. All the praying landed us to Mr.edwards. Im legit happy. My son counts the days. Hrs when we can see each other.. soon that will be exact what what my son and i want. I wasted $17,500 with other lawyers and almost a yr with no results.. Mr.edwards did so much in 48days. Best decision for the fight. If this was a boardgame Mr.edwards would be the strongest character on the board.

Excellent Attorney

Jonathan Edwards was truly dedicated to my mom's matrimonial and other family matter cases. He is honest, professional, thorough, caring, personable, knowledgeable and has a great recall for details. He kept us informed along the way and always got back to us quickly. We will always be grateful fo...r his help!

Think twice, good for combative situations, not good advice to diffuse and settle.

He has a lot of experience and knows what he is doing, after the whole mess my settlement was good. But I would only recommend him if you WANT a fight. He is very combative which can be a good thing in certain situations, but I regret having retained him. Some examples: When asked how much this woul...d cost his answer was “the retainer is XXX” the divorce ended up costing me 3 times that. He did not explain that possibility, he just kept saying how easy and quick it was going to be. Instead of writing my ex a letter offering to do a collaborative divorce he went with the serving papers route, which made her angrier and things got nastier, bad advice to follow. He kept telling me how easy the divorce was going to be (no children, similar salaries) and when I asked how long it would take he said 3 months, he had to know that was not possible. It was about 4 months to just get to the preliminary hearing… then covid hit so after that is not his fault, but even before Covid it was almost impossible to get a divorce done in less than a year in NY. He blatantly lied to me about timing. This was probably the worst part. Early in the divorce I got a job offer in another state, I asked for advice about taking it, he said “sure go ahead, you have no kids”. This gave my now ex wife a weapon to play games and delay as much as she could, because she knew I had to pay both mortgage and rent in the new place. Aren’t lawyers for giving good advice???? He kept telling me after every meeting with the judge’s clerk how it was “done” but there was always another meeting and more negotiations (and more billing). This is not all his fault, my ex wife was butthurt and wanted to extend this over forever to hurt me financially. But I am sure he did not mind the extra hours billed, if he is so knowledgeable why didn’t he warn me this could happen from the beginning? Why keep telling me that “it’s done”? After all, all she got out of me was 1% of the house (we split it 51/49) so the outcome ended up being positive, again he knows what he is doing and he knows how to fight for you, so if this is your thing by all means go with him. But if you can mediate or have a more reasonable/collaborative divorce don’t follow his advice.

"I have been an adversary to Jon on a number of cases. He cares strongly about his client's cause, fights hard for positive result and has my professional respect. He is a magnificent orator, exceptionally quick on his feet and exhibits an incisive legal mind. Rather work with him than against him."
