My mum and I have dealt with lawyers who exploited immigrants, and some were even worse than Dorothy. That’s how we ended up working with her. In 2020, my mum explained how her previous lawyer had m...ishandled her case, and Dorothy agreed to help. She did file the necessary waiver and employment authorization, so I’ll give her credit for that. But after that—silence. No follow-up, no guidance. We waited for three years. Finally, we requested copies of our documents and discovered that the waiver Dorothy filed had been approved back in 2020, and immigration had sent the documents to her office. When we tried to follow up, Dorothy didn’t even remember what forms she had filed. When I questioned why she hadn’t followed up on the forms, instead of taking responsibility for her office’s mistake, she yelled at me over the phone and wouldn’t let me speak. She then threatened to make us pay before any further meetings, even though we were simply asking about documents we had already paid her to file. I was not seeking advice, I wanted an accurate timeline of what she had done and if they were other approval letters her office obviously missed so my mum’s new lawyer could pick up the case properly. I’m not saying you shouldn’t hire her, but if you do, make sure to stay on top of your case and take proactive steps to follow up with immigration yourself.
