Don't Waste your Time with this Lawyer

I hired Shaun Reid to help me fight a workplace discrimination case. Shaun suggested to file a complaint to Division of Human Right, and he ensured me that i will be protected against retaliation from my supervisor. In August of 2014, I received a position letter to dismiss my complaint due to no e...vidence of “adverse employment action" by Division of Human Right. After the dismissal, I was trying to reach Shaun, and he never respond back to me. I called his office, and left messages to his cell phone several times without any response. I spent $3,000 with Shaun's complaint letter, and one weak rebuttal letter. I could have written these two letters myself, and maybe getting better response. The worst thing is Shaun's disappearance. I got even more harassment from my supervisor after my initial complaint to Division of Human Right ! Now I am about to get fire, and I don't have enough money to hire another lawyer. Please don't waste your money on this lawyer.

It saddens me that you feel this way. I strive in every attorney-client relationship to help the client set reasonable expectations prior to starting any representation. I thought I had done so here. While ethical rules require that I not disclose client confidences, I will respond to this very harsh review with the facts, while maintaining your confidentiality. At the outset, I informed you that your case may have issues related to whether you suffered any “adverse employment actions” and I explained what that meant. However, for reasons I cannot disclose here, you wanted to file the complaint. You are correct that I told you that the law protects you from retaliation aimed at you due to you having filed a complaint. After your employer wrote a position statement unsurprisingly asserting its belief that you had not suffered any adverse employment actions, I wrote a rebuttal letter that you, contrary to your harsh review here, were quite pleased with as shown by your email to me: “Shaun, I've read your rebuttal letter. You are a brilliant lawyer! Thanks a lot and have a nice weekend! Best regards.” What has gone on since then is mostly a mystery to me because I believe I have been clear in speaking with you. We have spoken about your new claims of retaliation and I have told you why I will not file them (I cannot disclose those reasons here). I also note that several months after this negative review, you asked me to help you file another type of complaint, which I cannot disclose here, and I have declined, for reasons I cannot disclose here. I have done my best to address the issues raised in your negative review while maintaining client confidentiality and anonymity. While I empathize with anyone going through what they perceive as workplace harassment, the law limits what relief is available depending on your facts. As I have said to you, given your current facts I am unable to help you any further. Should the facts change, feel free to contact me. As much as I am hurt by your negative review, I am equally hurt by the fact that you continue to suffer at work. I wish there was more that I could do for you. I wish you all the best for the future.

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
