James Michael Birnbaum

James M. Birnbaum is a partner in the firm. He practices in the areas of estate administration, estate planning, municipal law, and general litigation, and represents companies large and small, both for-profit and not-for-profit, in litigation and transactional matters. He has litigated many disputes on behalf of companies and individuals involving general commercial matters, real estate, banking, and  employment, among other areas of the law. James currently serves as a Village Attorney for the Village of South Nyack, where he provides advice and counsel to the Board of Trustees, drafts Local Laws and resolutions, prepares agreements, and serves as Village Prosecutor. He previously served as Legislative Counsel to the Rockland County Legislature. In that capacity, he drafted Local Laws and resolutions and provided legal advice to the County Legislature and County personnel. He is admitted to the bars of New York and New Jersey and is admitted to practice before the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York. 

James is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and the Boston University School of Law. He has served as Vice President, Treasurer and Secretary of the Rockland County Bar Association, and has been a member of a number of the Association’s committees, including Judicial Screening, Nominating, Real Estate, and Mock Trial.  He is Past President of the Board of Directors of the Rockland Conservatory of Music in Pearl River, New York. He is a member of the New York State Bar Association, and is enrolled in its Elder Law and Special Needs Section and its Trusts and Estates Section.
