Exceeded Expectations At Every Turn

My wife and I were stopped by police while strolling at night near the gate of a schoolyard across the street from us in Brooklyn. There were perhaps a dozen people actually inside the park when the officers approached us, made interminable small talk, and a half hour later asked for our I.D.'s and g...ave us summonses for being in the park after 9p.m. (Apparently there was a sign, under a broken light.) The cops were clearly new, and gave us one piece of misinformation after another, telling us we could just go inside and each pay our $20 ticket. Turns out being in a park after dark is actually a misdemeanor in NY requiring a court appearance. Plead guilty or get convicted and it can never be wiped from your record in this state. (This would have been a major nuisance for me, as I travel internationally for work, and would have to go through lengthy and uncertain visa applications if I had a conviction to disclose.) To make matters worse, the court date was scheduled for a day when I would be abroad. Frustrated at the officers' misinformation, I called Jason Stern several hours later, probably around midnight, expecting to leave a message. Not only did he answer, but immediately briefed me and my wife on our options, gave us reasonable expectations for the process, and even just some general words of psychological wisdom that he has clearly gleaned from deep experience with this sort of situation. I texted him photos of the summonses, and he immediately noticed the officers recorded the county incorrectly. For a flat fee for both of us, Jason sent a retainer agreement that said under no circumstances would he plead guilty for us, and would handle all necessary appearances. I still wasn't in love with the fact that I'd be out of the country on the court date, as I'd anxiously want to know the disposition. Turns out Jason managed to get our cases dismissed before our official court date and before I had to leave. He knows (and is liked by) the relevant judge and court officers and other important people, which I think is a massive asset for making sure things go smoothly. And he's clever, which, as you might imagine, is what you want on your side. Obviously, park-after-dark might seem like a frivolous matter, but a misdemeanor on your record is a misdemeanor, with all the associated annoyances. If you choose to handle a court appearance yourself, things can go wrong. I'm pretty confident if you're stuck in a similar spot with a summons in NY, if there's a chance of getting it dismissed, Jason's going to get it dismissed. He's also really responsive by text and email, which is convenient, because you have a job too. Given that the experience was a pain to begin with, everything associated with Jason's handling of our summonses went as well as I possibly could have imagined. I recommend him in the highest possible terms.

Got the job done with no drama

Jason was very knowledgeable about a minor infraction/ticket issued by a police officer that could have gone on my son's permanent "record", potentially complicating job searches that require background checks. After a little prep with me (via email), Jason went in front of a judge and got the most ...favorable resolution possible. He did the job without a lot of wasted motion. He knows about specific judges in specific court houses in New York City, may have made the difference in this case. Most of our communications were via email, which is what I preferred. They were timely and as easy to understand as they could be, under the circumstances. I am happy with the result and I would work with Jason again. --A relieved father

THE RIGHT STUFF

Take it from me trying to fight a NYPD "pink" reckless driving ticket on your own is an uphill battle. It's the time, it's the energy , and it's the police officer's words against yours. The Judges take their words over yours all the time. When I contacted Attorney Jason Stern he warned of the craz...y situation I was about to face, but I didn't believe him until I actually went through it. It's like a bad dream , you literally have about 30 seconds in front of the judge, so be careful what you say at that point it could land you with a more serious judgement. It's truly a Kangeroo court ! Jason Stern's Knowledge and experience helped guide me through the traps and loopholes of my case that would have left me with 5 points and a permanent criminal record. Trust me he is the "Right" attorney for the job!
