Douglas J. FitzMorris

Douglas FitzMorris is a litigation partner and veteran trial attorney who devotes his practice almost exclusively to the counseling and defense of physicians, hospitals, nurses, chiropractors, dentists, and other health care professionals in malpractice litigation and trials. Over the past 25 years, Mr. FitzMorris has tried over 100 cases to verdict, and routinely handles cases with multimillion dollar exposure. Mr. FitzMorris completed a rigorous undergraduate pre-med program, allowing him to comprehend and coordinate complex medical issues and develop successful defense strategies. This expertise also proves invaluable in formulating expert witness support and planning defense strategy, as well as executing an effective cross-examination of opposing expert witnessses.    Mr. FitzMorris previously served for 12 years in the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office. While assigned to the Superior Court Trial Division, he served as Deputy Chief of the Homicide Bureau under District Attorney Jeanine Pirro. Mr. FitzMorris had previously served as Deputy Chief of the Career Criminal Bureau under District Attorney Carl Vergari. During his tenure, Mr. FitzMorris successfully prosecuted many noteworthy homicides and other serious felony offenses. While attending Brooklyn Law School, Mr. FitzMorris clerked for the Honorable Thomas C. Platt of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York, and interned with the Office of the United States Attorney, Criminal Division, under the Hon. Raymond J. Dearie. Mr. FitzMorris has been an invited speaker on various topics at seminars sponsored by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the New York State Inspector General’s Office, and the Yonkers Police Department. He has also lectured physicians and hospital staff on risk-management and medical-legal matters.
