Biography

Barbie D. Lieber , of Lieber & Lieber, LLP, treats her clients with dignity and compassion. Her interpersonal skills and knowledge help to ease the anxiety felt by many of her clients, particularly those clients who are undergoing enormous financial stress or other types of stress. The legal process can be daunting and Ms. Lieber does everything she can do to make it stress free. She takes prides on being very approachable and available to her clients. Barbie D. Lieber is head of the Firm’s Bankruptcy and Creditor & Debtor Rights and Collections practice and Commercial and Employment Litigation practice, and co-head of the Firm's Real Estate and Employment/Benefits practices. She began her career as a judicial law clerk to the Hon. Cornelius J. Blackshear of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York. She was previously associated with Tenzer Greenblatt LLP, Luskin Stern & Eisler and White & Case LLP. Ms. Lieber received her undergraduate degree from SUNY Stony Brook (B.S., 1984, Magna Cum Laude, Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society) and her law degree from SUNY Buffalo, (J.D., 1987, with honors). Ms. Lieber is a member of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York and the American Bankruptcy Institute.

Bruce J. Lieber, of Lieber & Lieber, LLP, is head of the Firm’s Corporate/Business practice and co-head of the Firm’s Real Estate and Employment/Benefits practices. He was previously Counsel to Dechert LLP. Prior to that, he was associated with Olwine, Connelly, Chase, O’Donnell & Weyher and before that Mudge Rose Guthrie Alexander & Ferdon. Mr. Lieber received his undergraduate degree from SUNY Albany (B.S., 1982, magna cum laude) and his law degree from SUNY Buffalo, (J.D., 1985, with honors), where he was a member of the Buffalo Law Review. Mr. Lieber is a member of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York and is on its Legal Referral Panel for Corporate, Contracts and Real Estate Law.

Life Saver

Two years ago I stepped out, sacrificing everything to move to NY. I had no idea that my life would fall apart. After two years of barely managing my existing debt, having taken a 90% decrease in my income, I was faced with the threat of garnishment of my petty fellowship wages. I googled BR attorney...s and thank goodness Barbie was on the short list. After a brief consultation via phone, she scheduled to meet with me the next day - informing me of all that I needed to bring. The meeting was long and I left feeling confident that my matter would be resolved. Barbie was patient, thorough and kept me well informed throughout the entire process. My situation was quite complicated considering I had several properties, and several sources of "petty income" but she gave it her all. I was well informed from the beginning to the end and she took extra effort to ensure that I completed additional documentation. Most importantly, she is such a great study that she was able to prepare me very well for my meeting of the creditors. Hopefully, I'll never have to hire her again but if I did I would in a heartbeat. It goes without saying that Barbie gets my highest recommendations.

Absolutley the best bankruptcy attorney

After trying for almost two years to manage mounting credit card bills, payment arrangements, and ever-increasing tax assessments, I reluctantly concluded that I should file for bankruptcy. My case was not straightforward; it was complicated by the fact that my personal finances overlapped with inco...me received from a small business operation, and I had personal tax liens filed against me. In deciding to file for bankruptcy, I knew I would need to engage an attorney who would not only defend my interests but one who would take a personal interest in my case. Barbie Lieber is just such an attorney. Indeed, I had consulted with two other attorneys prior to meeting with her. When my initial consultation with Barbie was over, I knew that I had found the kind of attorney I was looking for – the kind of attorney that I could trust. Barbie will never view you or treat you as merely “just another client.” She is not only an extremely capable attorney with a great deal of experience with bankruptcy cases as complex as mine, she has the added quality that anyone going through the turmoil of bankruptcy really needs – empathy. Barbie is genuinely concerned about how you, as a person, will manage AFTER the bankruptcy proceedings have concluded, and she’s not hesitant about offering you advice in that regard. If you are fortunate to have Barbie represent you before the Bankruptcy trustee (and she will be there with you in person – she does not outsource your case to some unknown lawyer as other firms sometimes do) you’ll find that Barbie has prepared you –over and over again - for every possible contingency. Helped me through a difficult chapter

Barbie helped me through a difficult chapter in my life. She helped me understand my situation and options, which would have otherwise been confusing and hard to handle. I would recommend her to anyone facing insurmountable debt or a difficult financial situation.

Recent Clients

We were in need of retaining a chapter 7 bankruptcy lawyer and started to seriously look around late last year 2012. We spoke with 2 lawfirms and had made a lot of phone calls to other firms before we came upon the AVVO website and saw all the endless positive reviews about Barbie Lieber. We contac...ted her by email first and then after a few emails back and forth, Barbie just asked us for our phone number and she called us right away. We had a lot of concerns, as anyone would in filing chapter 7 and she spent the time with us on the phone. We spent a few days thinking it over and we called her back and retained her. She was able to expedite the filing process quickly, compared to other firms that were quoting a longer waiting time for filing. We were very prepared for the 341 mtg. and calmed my nerves. We have no regrets about any of it. The whole process was stressful at times but Barbie kept assuring us that everything would be okay. And true to her word, everything did work out. Transcripts after bankruptcy!

In april of 2009, I filed for bankruptcy. thinking all of my debts were clear. I reached out to one of the creditors, which was a college. In hopes of getting my transcripts, I reached out to the college to find out that the college was originally left out of the contract. the college and the collect...ion agency refused to acknowledge the release of the debt(since it was not a student loan, the debt can be legally discharged). after many attempts to talk to the collection agency, college and my previous attorney(with no help from them). no one was willing to help, that's when I found Barbie Lieber, she quickly took notes and got a grasp of my situation. she was able to determine that debt was discharged even though it was not included in the bankruptcy contract, there for leaving me eligible to receive a official transcript. she fired off a letter to both the college and the collection agency. getting the collection agency to refund a payment I sent in order to receive my transcripts and to clear my remaining balance, leaving me in good standing with both. Barbie was compassionate, efficient, and speedy, I hired Barbie 4/5/2013, by 4/15 I had a responses from the collection agency and a refund check in the mail. I truly will recommend barbie to all and any friend who needs helping in whatever field Barbie specializes in. As Barbie produces results and all her clients seems happy and satisfied with her services. In short, if you need something done quick and right Barbie is your Lawyer!!!! She literally left me over the moon!! I can now transfer to another college and proceed in growing towards my future! thank you so much Barbie!
