John Laurence received his B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Polytechnic University in 1995 and his J.D. from New York Law School in 2008. He was admitted to the N.Y. State Bar and the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office in 2008 and the Southern District of N.Y. in 2016.
John has experience in all facets of intellectual property law with concentrations in patents, trademarks, and copyright prosecution and enforcement. Notable clients have included Canon, International Business Machines, Siemens, Corning, and Applied Materials. However, John has extensive experience working with small business and independent inventors to help identify, develop, and enforce relevant intellectual property rights.
John has prepared and prosecuted patent applications across multiple technologies including computer systems, communication systems, semiconductor manufacturing, networking, software, circuits, electric devices, mechanical devices, internet technology, materials, and business methods. John also has experience practicing before the Patent Trial Appeal Board (PTAB).
John has also filed, prosecuted, and enforced trademarks and copyrights and has experience with trademark opposition and cancellation proceedings before the Trademark Trial Appeal Board (TTAB). John has helped to develop and maintain national and international patent and trademark portfolios.
Before becoming an attorney, John worked as an electrical and computer engineer primarily in the broadcast and video production industries. John’s engineering clients have included Discreet Logic, Autodesk, Maximum Throughput, National Broadcasting Company, and Avid Technologies.
