David Q. Zong advises businesses, entrepreneurs, investors, and professionals on U.S. trademark protection, cross-border business matters, and employment- and investment-based immigration. With legal experience spanning both China and the United States, David has particular experience working with Chinese and other international companies entering, operating, and expanding in the U.S. market.

David’s trademark practice focuses on helping businesses protect and manage their brands in the United States. He represents clients in trademark clearance and availability analysis, USPTO applications, Office Action responses, Statements of Use, Section 8 and 9 maintenance filings, assignments and ownership changes, and trademark portfolio management. He has handled both individual registrations and large portfolios involving numerous marks and affiliated entities.

David also regularly advises cross-border e-commerce companies and consumer brands on trademark enforcement and platform-related matters. His experience includes Brand Registry, infringement complaints and takedowns, DMCA matters, cease-and-desist letters, TTAB opposition and cancellation proceedings, and disputes involving online marketplaces and major U.S. retailers. His clients include e-commerce sellers, consumer-product companies, technology businesses, and established international brands.

In his business immigration practice, David represents U.S. companies, multinational businesses, entrepreneurs, executives, professionals, and researchers in employment- and investment-based immigration matters. His work includes EB-1 extraordinary ability and multinational manager petitions, EB-2 National Interest Waiver petitions, L-1 intracompany transferee petitions, H-1B specialty occupation matters, and EB-5 immigrant investor matters. He frequently works with companies on immigration strategies that support the establishment, staffing, and expansion of their U.S. operations.

David approaches trademark, corporate, and immigration matters from a business perspective. For international companies entering the United States, trademark protection, corporate structure, hiring, executive transfers, and immigration planning are often interconnected. His cross-border experience enables him to advise clients on these issues as part of a coordinated U.S. business strategy rather than as isolated legal matters.

Before practicing law in the United States, David accumulated substantial legal and business experience in China, including serving as in-house counsel for a multinational bank, chief legal officer of a major real estate investment enterprise, and an arbitrator with the Hainan International Arbitration Commission. This background gives him practical familiarity with corporate decision-making, commercial transactions, regulatory matters, and the legal concerns facing businesses operating across jurisdictions.

David is admitted to practice in New York and New Jersey. He received his LL.B. from Wuhan University and his J.D. from the University at Buffalo School of Law. 

David is fluent in English and Mandarin Chinese.
