Outstanding Attorney

I contacted Catherine after false sexual assault allegations were made against me and promptly hired her after she demonstrated that she was more knowledgeable in the handling of cases of this nature than several other attorneys I contacted. She was extremely supportive, checked in on me periodicall...y as well as was available when I had any questions. The charges were dropped and I was able to continue doing the job I loved. Thank you so much Catherine. You and your team are outstanding!

Excellent Service

Mrs. Cherskasky helped me while going through a stressful situation of being investigated for a sexual assault(which was not true). She is very knowledgeable and she gave me all the support an attorney can provide. I would recommend her to any having military issues.

It depends...

Katie and Andy are good people and there is no one else I would recommend for military sexual assault defense! However, my case had much different circumstances. While their track record in sexual assault cases is remarkable, I am not the only one disappointed in the service, support, and ability in ...other types of cases. I was not a fan of their laid back approach as I was bullied by my chain of command and ultimately lost my career. They are willing to defend you against any types of charges but there are other, better specialists around for the other types of cases...

It is terrible when even a single client is not completely satisfied with our services. Unfortunately, the author of this review is not identified to us and we have not received any similar complaints from our clients. We would be happy to discuss the feelings of this reviewer and make sure we do whatever we can, within the bounds of the law and our ethical responsibilities, to ensure they are satisfied. There are many reasons why even the most ferocious criminal attorney may not satisfy a client. Often, as is the case here, the outcome rather than the effort is the criticism. When the evidence is overwhelming of guilt, often the best we can do is mitigate the damage. Some clients want their attorney to interfere with an investigation, intimidate witnesses, or hide evidence. All of this amounts to criminal obstruction of justice. In other cases, we may advise our clients to fight hard at a court-martial, but they decide not to take our advice and decide to leave it in the hands of their commanders in administrative functions which are historically unfair, and then later complain about the outcome of those administrative actions even though they were well advised when they made the decision in the first place. Narrowing down the possible clients this review could have been written by, we are left to conclude that this client is one that was unwilling to risk the negative consequences of a court-martial because of their admitted guilt, but failure to accept that their criminal conduct would result in at least some negative consequences for violating the law. This client fails to recognize that the avoidance of significant confinement and negative discharge from the service was a fantastic victory given their decision not to demand trial by court-martial. Sexual assault cases may be the majority of cases we defend at trial, but we defend cases that span the spectrum of UCMJ allegations, from murder, to minor administrative discipline matters. We fight zealously for every client we elect to take on. The way we approach our cases is based on dozens of years of experience, involvement in thousands of administrative matters, and hundreds of fully litigated jury trials. We always strive to meet the desires of our clients, but there are times that a client’s lack of legal training and experience leads to unrealistic expectations of what a defense attorney can accomplish. Prior to this review, we recently published blog articles on our website about what makes a successful attorney. As those articles explain, a case that ends favorably is not a victory unless it ends exactly as the client wanted it to end – even if those desires were unreasonable or impossible. We strive to meet the desires of our clients, no matter how difficult their case is or how slim their chances of victory may be; however, after years of such high-risk legal practice, there are bound to be clients that are not entirely satisfied with the results of their case. Again, we desperately want to make sure our clients feel that we did everything we could and understand why we may be limited by the law and ethical responsibilities in certain regards. If the author of this post would like to discuss further, we are more than happy to take the time to address and hopefully take action to satisfy this individual client of the thousands we have had over the years.

Knowledgeable and compassionate

Katie helped me fight a serious sexual assault allegation which lasted a year long. She provided comfort when I needed it the most. She helped me avoid serious punishment based off false allegations. I was able to avoid Njp and Court Martial thanks to her and her team. Thank you Katie.

Saved my career after being charged for sexual assault

When I found out I was being investigated for sexual assault I immediately freaked out because it was totally false. I went on google and searched civilian ucmj lawyers. I went through a couple of sites, but something about Catherine's bio that made me feel comfortable talking to her, but I was a lit...tle nervous because at this point I didn't want to trust a female. I remember calling her at 11pm on a Friday, and she picked up and we talked for a lil over an hour. She heard my story and made me feel untroubled, because she hears these allegations all the time. This crisis of mine happened right after Christmas and I told Catherine I was serious about retaining her services, but I literally had a couple hundred dollars, and couldn't pay the retainer fee at that very moment. She allowed me to put 10% down and she would send me a memorandum that I can show my company commander informing them that I am being represented. I was able to pay her when I got my following check like we agreed. I don't know of any other lawyer who would do that. The price was more than reasonable, even if it would go to trial. This is my future, and my army career was something I was willing to fight for. She was in constant communication with the army prosecutor and gave me a heads up of what's going on. My case was a little different because the allegation happen of post in my hometown. Since it happen in my hometown civilian law enforcement came to interview me on base. Katie told me what to say and made me feel comfortable asserting my constitutional rights. Two months past, and the civilian law enforcement closed the case. Then a couple of days later C.I.D came to interview me, unlike the civilian law enforcement they were ten times more aggressive. This time I brought the memorandum that Katie wrote for me. I remember the C.I.D agent reading it and he knew I meant business, because he went from being nice and trying to build a rapport with me to telling me he has hard evidence against me, and if I take a lie detector test he can close this case as soon as possible. I didn't budge and remembered Catherine telling me that C.I.D can legally lie to me about anything. I knew I was innocent and didn't do anything this female claim to say I did, so I put all my trust in Catherine's words and didn't believe them when they said they had hard evidence, or take a polygraph test because C.I.D can lie and say I failed even if i passed it. A month later went by and the lieutenant Colonel came to me and told me I will be able to PCS to my duty station and I will not be receiving an Art. 15. I got the flagged removed and my rank back. Catherine saved my life and my career. I knew these results wouldn't of been attained with JAG, and I wasn't going to plead guilty with the possibility of being registered a sex offender for life and doing time in jail. The Cherkasky law firm is one of the the best decision I ever made in my life!!!
