Robert Van De Veire is an accomplished trial attorney and securities litigator who has devoted his practice to representing investors harmed by financial misconduct. As a partner at Kurta Law, he holds brokerage firms, financial advisors, and other financial professionals accountable for investment fraud, breach of fiduciary duty, unsuitable recommendations, supervisory failures, forgery, and elder financial exploitation. He combines extensive trial experience with a sophisticated understanding of the securities industry and a commitment to protecting his clients' financial interests. Robert has also been approved by the New York State courts for appointment as counsel to incapacitated persons for whom a guardian ad litem has been appointed.
With more than 20 trials and arbitration hearings to his credit, including FINRA arbitrations, jury trials, and bench trials, Robert brings the experience and determination necessary to take on even the most formidable financial institutions. He approaches every case with trial in mind, meticulously examining the evidence, exposing misconduct, anticipating defenses, and presenting complex financial disputes in clear, compelling terms. His preparation and willingness to see cases through to a final decision also position his clients to negotiate from strength. His results include multiple multimillion-dollar recoveries in matters involving private placements, real estate investment trusts (REITs), hedge funds, elder financial abuse, and other investment misconduct.
Robert's effectiveness as an advocate is strengthened by his experience on both sides of complex litigation. Before joining Kurta Law, he litigated sophisticated civil and professional liability matters at a prominent AmLaw 200 law firm. Earlier, he practiced at a boutique securities litigation firm, representing investors in disputes with financial institutions while also defending individuals in SEC and FINRA regulatory matters. This background gives him valuable insight into how opposing counsel evaluates claims, develops defenses, and assesses litigation risk - insight he uses to build stronger cases for his clients.
Robert's work representing investors has attracted coverage from prominent national news organizations and securities industry publications, including Bloomberg News, the Los Angeles Times, the New York Post, and InvestmentNews.
A recognized speaker, author, and educator on securities law and investor protection, Robert regularly presents to county bar associations, the New York State Bar Association, and the Public Investors Advocate Bar Association (PIABA). His presentations address cutting-edge issues and practical litigation strategies, including defeating motions to dismiss under FINRA Rule 12206, cryptocurrency and blockchain technology, maximizing recoverable damages, financial institution liability for third-party theft, and pig-butchering investment scams targeting older and vulnerable investors. He has also served as an adjunct professor teaching securities arbitration, published articles in the PIABA Bar Journal and Practising Law Institute materials, and served as co-chair of the New York County Lawyers Association's Securities and Exchanges Committee.
Robert earned his law degree from St. John's University School of Law, where he participated in the Securities Arbitration Clinic and served on the board of its trial advocacy program. He remains committed to developing the next generation of trial attorneys, having served as a guest lecturer for the St. John's Securities Arbitration Clinic, a mock trial coach for the Polestino Trial Advocacy Institute, and a mentor for the New York Law School Securities Arbitration Clinic.
Robert understands that investment losses can threaten a client's retirement, financial security, and trust in the professionals they relied upon. He brings to every representation the courtroom experience, strategic judgment, and personal commitment necessary to pursue accountability and meaningful recovery.
Robert is admitted to practice in New York and New Jersey and before the U.S. District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York and the District of New Jersey.
