Environmental damage and climate change are some of the most critical issues facing society today. I am proud to take up the essential work of protecting scarce and vulnerable environmental resources and advocating on behalf of local communities that have been impacted by corporate pollution.
Maja Lukic brings to her role as an associate attorney in our Environmental, Toxic Torts, and Consumer Protection Litigation unit a natural ability to care about clients in ways that go far above and beyond that which is expected. Like all her colleagues at Weitz & Luxenberg, Ms. Lukic enthusiastically strives to meet the needs of those she represents, to ensure that questions about the status of their cases are promptly and thoroughly answered, and to see to it that their fight for justice proceeds with both speed and sure-footedness.
Ms. Lukic joined Weitz & Luxenberg in 2015. Previously, she was a litigation associate with the New York law firm of Wolf Haldenstein Adler Freeman & Herz LLP, where she participated in complex actions involving securities, derivatives, corporate governance, antitrust matters, consumer fraud and protection, environmental torts, and federal anti-racketeering law.
Just as she does for us today at Weitz & Luxenberg, Ms. Lukic drafted complaints, memoranda of law, appellate briefs, summary judgment motions and oppositions, motions to compel, motions for class certification, settlement and attorneys’ fees motions, expert reports and declarations, mediation statements, attorney affidavits, discovery requests and subpoenas, and books and records demands.
Earlier, Ms. Lukic was employed as an attorney for the New York State Court of Appeals, Third Judicial Department, in Albany, New York, where she researched and analyzed legal issues and prepared preliminary reports to the court. Prior to that, she worked briefly as a law clerk at the Cancer Legal Resource Center in Los Angeles.
Ms. Lukic began practicing law in 2010, the same year she obtained a juris doctor degree from Cornell Law School in Ithaca, New York. At Cornell, she was an articles editor on the Cornell Law Review. She also served as a research assistant to her environmental law professor and the assistant dean who contributed to the Restatement (Third) of Employment Law.
Ms. Lukic enrolled at Cornell after graduating from Memorial University of Newfoundland in Canada in 2007 where she received a bachelor of fine arts degree in theater performance and earned grades high enough to merit recognition on the school’s equivalent of a dean’s list. Ms. Lukic spent a semester studying theater in the English county of Essex, a few counties to the east of the birthplace of William Shakespeare. Ms. Lukic enjoys the stage, creative writing, photography and vegan/vegetarian cooking.
