Picked up from our house at 5 am, the whole family is taken to jail, and charged with a $300,000.00 financial fraud against the State of New York. (even though the charges against us are backed up with video evidence, and the prosecutor is intent on sending the whole family to jail) He assures us that he will fight for us and will tackle every threat from the prosecutor with precision, wisdom, and intellect and that he will save us from the exaggerated charges and show the judge the real context behind the crime and behind the family as we are “humans who have a life which is far more telling about our characters than a criminal act”. THE WHOLE FAMILY THINKS HE IS RETARDED! How can someone save us when the prosecutors have so much VIDEO evidence against us and they are bent on making an example out of our family so they can “discourage other businesses from committing Food Stamp related Frauds. We decided to search for other firms. After talking to 8 different Law Firms in N.Y.C. and realizing that none were as qualified nor confident as Todd Spodek, and none other had so much experience in fighting fraud cases we finally decided to hire the Spodek Law Firm for the following 3 main reasons: #1 — After doing extensive research online we saw that Todd Spodek had been on TV representing some big names (celebrities) and SUCCESSFULLY SAVING THEM FROM JAIL TIME. I knew right then that he is not a regular lawyer… he was the one! #3 — He sat with us for the longest period of time to explain to us the intrinsic details of the case and how it can be defended with a systematic approach WITHOUT HAVING SIGNED ANY PAYMENT AGREEMENT. Whereas, every other law firm that we had gone to before wanted us to leave a deposit and sign papers, “so they can “protect us faster”! This summary does not include the emotional support, the understanding, and the overall peace that Todd brought in our lives so we can relax and fight the D.A. with shrewdness rather than emotions. Throughout the whole process, he was always available to answer even the smallest of questions and fought the D.A. with more passion, intellect, and fire than we have ever seen even in Hollywood! My husband's employer received a payroll request form from HRA/BFI requesting all of his payroll records. My husbands employer told him in secrecy and immediately I started to freak out and research the situation online. I came across numerous websites but none as comprehensive as Spodeks. I setup ap...pointments with all of the lawyers who seemed to do this work and there was no question that Spodek's firm was the right fit. Mr. Spodek and his paralegals know the process in and out. The consultation which was free (unlike one of the other attorneys who wanted $360.00) was over an hour long with no pressure to retain them whatsoever. One lawyer tried to tell us we were are risk of immediate arrest and we should hire them to avoid a criminal record, which turned out not to be accurate. Spodek explained by accepting benefits you are authorizing the city to investigate your income, your household and other variables which would effect your eligibility for benefits. They had a laptop which they showed us the exact document which my husbands job received and walked us through each part of the subpoena. They then showed me a target letter which would be next unless the case was referred directly for civil or criminal prosecution. We then went through a CDR which detailed the benefits that are paid out on behalf of an individual and lastly they showed me a criminal complaint with the same investigator as my husband had. I met with them in the Manhattan office on they 46th floor and is a very nice professional office. However, as I work in Brooklyn I dropped off the documents and dealt primarily with Shantal in that office which is also very nice. The comments in regards to the online system is true it's great and a very nice way to track your case. I will say that the fee charged here is higher then the other lawyers but my husband and I felt it was well worth it. We wound up setting the case, avoiding criminal prosecution and meeting with the investigators at HRA. All of the investigators were very accommodating and my husband and I never had to meet one on one with them. They signed the settlement documents in Spodeks conference room and the investigators agreed to come there. The only thing I would agree is that it's very hard to just call and reach the attorney, they want to schedule a specific time.
