Richard Roman Shum

A very bad experience! I hired Mr. Shum to help me with my divorce in August 2020. The first red flag was when he used "wtf" in a professional email in response to my suggestion that he add something to the letter to my husband. Then it took him 8 weeks to produce a motion of default. His response to... my email about the time frame was "as soon as possible and If you ask again you will be charged fees". Finally I received a 1 page motion which was a cookie cutter motion that anybody could create themselves just by googling "motion of default". All that Mr. Shum did was add my and my husbands name and charged me 3.5 hours for that work. I do not recommend this lawyer. It was my mistake hiring him after finding him through a google search.

Richard's considerable knowledge, intuition and intelligence were all brought to bear while heading our entertainment company's Legal Department. Richard masterfully negotiated licensing deals with major film studios, production companies and record labels. He also managed litigation prep, handled ...royalty administration and oversaw IP valuations. When the position called for aggressive action Richard was very effective, pursuing instances of copyright infringement and protecting our company's assets in other ways. But he also knew when to be circumspect and conciliatory when managing our delicate ongoing business relationships. It was a pleasure working with Richard and I was always impressed by his knowledge and professionalism. I would enthusiastically recommend Richard for a wide range of legal needs.

My company solicited attorney Shum's services on two occasions: I have a company that creates original music for commercials. As the company was forming attorney Shum aided us in the creation of a number of agreements. These agreements included, amongst other documents, a music right agreement, ...a session musician agreement, and a composers agreement. In addition, attorney Shum's services were solicited when the company shifted from 3 to 2 partners. Attorney Shum aided in drafting the exit agreement, and acted as a guide throughout the process. In both cases attorney Shum was great to work with. Navigating both of these situations was, at times, confusing. Attorney Shum made the details of both matters easy for me to comprehend. Attorney Shum operated in a timely manner, which I also appreciated.
