Our experience with Dan Lane was terrible. He was the worst and most apprehensive communicator I have ever dealt with. Dan was completely unprepared for hearings, arrogant, and unwilling to take responsibility for his amateur approach to a difficult case. Dan misrepresented and misled us on a core i...ssue, approaching mal-practice levels, and cost us valuable time in our matter which required extra work from competent attorneys to undue the damage. Stay away from this attorney if you value the outcome of your matter. This guy is reprehensible.

I hired Dan to help me deal with a child support situation after my divorce was finalized. He was more than generous with his free consultation time and sat through my questioning and outlined what sounded like a reasonable plan. He estimated the number of hours needed to accomplish the task and re...quested a retainer for that. Unfortunately, it very painfully and slowly became apparent that the plan was not going to go the way he had outlined and that the number of hours to get anything satisfactory to me accomplished would be much more than what he estimated and therefore not worth my investment. My aggravation is 1) in retrospect, I felt like the plan was very shortsighted given the background that he knew from the consultation 2) Dan was very confident in selling me his plan, so much so that I didn't hesitate too much at the large retainer 3) He seemingly refused to entertain my inklings that the process was taking too many hours with no results as the correspondences went on. He was vague about my "what if" questions the whole time, instead trying to just suggest what the very next step should be and then see what happened. That is not a good or comfortable tactic in my situation since it was only worth it to me to have the task accomplished under a certain number of hours of his work. I finally had to pull the plug on him when it was clear that it would take much long, cost much more, and possible not garner the result I hired Dan for. I will also say, although I suspect this happens with most attorneys, that the billing hours were unusual and seemed inflated in certain cases. If I took 18 minutes to respond to a very basic email at work, I wouldn't get much done each day. If I had to review files each time I dealt with a client, I would feel guilty charging them for my lack of attention or ability to remember a basic plan.
