Un responsive Lawyer

Please do not use this man. I answered his letter on tax appeal in 2009. By Oct 2011 he had not done anything. I then informed him that he no longer represents me and started to work with the town on my own. By end of 2012, I was able to get a reduction in taxes. Winters then sues me for "his sha...re." I go to court to defend myself and Winters doesn't show up. The case gets dismissed and then he refiles. I have another court date with him in Oct 2014.

Tax Appeal

I retained Mr. Winters in early 2010 to file a property tax appeal after receiving a letter from him offering his services. His fee was 1/3 of the first year's tax savings plus the filing fee. I did not hear from him until a day or so before my case was scheduled to come before the board, at which ...point he informed me that it would be best to settle because the board would require an expensive appraisal. He said that the town had offered a settlement. I agreed to accept settlement and Mr. Winters told me that the settlement would be applied in 2011. Excepting the second advertising letter that he sent me in 2011, as if I was not already his client, I did not hear from Mr. Winters again. He did not respond to my request for documentation of the settlement letter or my request for an update about the status of the case. When I called, his secretary told me that I just had to wait to see the tax savings. The bottom line is that despite filing an appeal and reaching a settlement in early 2010, I did not see any property tax savings until about October of 2011, and Mr. Winters never communicated the reason why this was so. I was actually shocked to see that any tax savings were realized at all, because I felt that my case had slipped through the cracks. Mr. Winters billed me in full promptly after the tax savings were finally applied.
