BACKGROUND
Born in Brooklyn, New York, Mr. Kurs spent his elementary school years in Reynoldsburg, Ohio, and then the remainder of his primary education years in East Windsor, New Jersey.
EDUCATION
Mr. Kurs received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Thomas Edison State University and his Juris Doctor degree from Brooklyn Law School.

TRAINING
While earning his Juris Doctor degree, he gained valuable civil litigation experience while completing an internship with the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP), and criminal litigation experience while completing an internship with the New Jersey Division of Criminal Justice, Office of the Attorney General, Organized Crime and Racketeering Bureau. Additionally, Mr. Kurs served as a judicial clerk in the Supreme Court of New York, Kings County, Criminal Division, Domestic Violence Part, with the Honorable Charles A. Posner.
COMMUNITY SERVICE
In addition to his legal experience, Mr. Kurs has been an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) for more than thirty years. He has served in both volunteer and career capacities, in both urban and suburban communities. His experience is not limited to patient care, as he served three terms as Chief of EMS, has experience in heavy rescue, extrication, hazardous materials (HazMat), emergency management, and he has been a 9-1-1 dispatcher. To this day, Mr. Kurs maintains current certifications and continues to serve as a volunteer on his local rescue squad.
As a founding member of the Emergency Medical Services and Emergency Medical Transportation Affinity Group of the American Health Lawyers Association, Mr. Kurs unites his legal experience with his experience as an EMT. Together with other attorneys who also serve as EMTs or Paramedics, he co-authored a legal treatise on EMS Law. Mr. Kurs serves as pro bono counsel for a large number of volunteer EMS agencies and fire departments.
Mr. Kurs is a lecturer on the Medical, Legal, and Ethical Considerations of EMS, the scope of practice, as well as proper documentation of medical records. Mr. Kurs has been a guest writer for the local newspaper, The Windsor-Hights Herald, as well as for the New Jersey Gold Cross, a magazine published by the New Jersey State First Aid Council.
Mr. Kurs served as one of the original members of the Mercer County Domestic Violence Victim Response Team which provides counseling and assistance to victims of domestic violence. The team began as a collaborative effort between Womanspace and the East Windsor Police Department and now provides services throughout Mercer County. Mr. Kurs continues to support the efforts of Womanspace, and now coordinates his efforts with Womanspace, providing pro bono legal services to victims of domestic violence.
Mr. Kurs sits on the board of iCare of East Windsor and Hightstown.

As a cellist, Mr. Kurs is a lifelong student of classical music, however, he has performed on a variety of instruments in various styles of music including classical, jazz, rock, and musical theater. No longer performing publicly, Mr. Kurs has kept music as an impassioned hobby, along with juggling.
