10 years ago I hired Richard Klein for a divorce. He accepted (demanded) my $3500 retainer and within a short time he used every penny of it with frivolous expenses. He claimed he had several 45 minute conversations with the opposing attorney. I learned through my soon to be xwife that those conversa...tions were only a few minutes in duration. He even billed me for a conversation he had with an attorney in his office to "insure" he was proceeding correctly. At his rate he should know if he is doing the correct thing. His former partner recommended that he (Klein) revise his bills and to reduce my balance once he was caught over billing. I would not have this attorney represent me for a parking ticket.

I hired Richard Klein in Jan to file a Post-Divorce Motion. After paying a retainer fee of $3,500 and waiting over 2 months, I began calling and e-mailing him, yet I continued to receive no feedback. Then he requested to meet face-to-face in April, to review my case files once again. I continued t...o hear nothing. In May he joined the Law Firm of Cooper Levenson and blamed the move for the delay. I continued to call and e-mail over the next month a half. Finally, the end of July he e-mailed me a draft of my Motion. After reading it over, I was outraged!!! It was a generic Divorce Motion, whereas my case was a Post-Divorce matter. I re-wrote the motion making numerous corrections to not only the information but to my Child's name as well as my Divorce date. A few weeks after that, I received a Certification in Support of the Motion. When I read it, again I was outraged and now furious!!!! The facts were jumbled, incorrect and it did not even make sense. I re-wrote the Certification and returned it to him stating my discord. The end of August I finally received the corrected Motion and Certification and it was signed and returned immediately. After waiting several more weeks and receiving no word of the filing, I felt I had to cut my losses and be done, so I sent his firm a registered letter requesting his withdrawal from my case. However, without my knowledge or consent, he filed my motion anyway. The only way I knew this was because he e-mailed me a copy of a letter from my Ex-Husband’s attorney, along with a Response to the Motion. Now, that the motion was finally filed, I felt I had no choice but to continue with the hope that my issue would finally get resolved. I then sent Richard an e-mail response to the Response to the Motion. However, Richard did nothing on my behalf and just sent me a e-mail informing me of the court date. Our Nov court date came and I had to review pertinent information with him prior to entering the courtroom because he did not have the facts straight. Yet the Courtroom scene was an outrage!!! The Judge could only go by what was contained in the Response Motion that my Ex-Husband had filed and Richard stumbled with details and did not have some of the necessary documentation to properly represent my case. He made a fool of me, himself as well as the firm he represents. After waiting almost 10 months and paying a retainer fee of $3,500, he now claims I now owe him an additional $4,500. THIS IS LUDICROUS AND A DISGRACE!!!

Richard Klein was referred to me by a friend that used him. I should have considered that her divorce was not done to satisfaction but I used him anyway. He doesn't return calls, do any follow-up and is a liar. He postpone court appearances using lies to the court and lacks professional courtesy. ... He messed up my paper work and my divorce was dismissed. He never answers his phone and bills excessively. After telling me a time frame for when my divorce would be completed and how much it would cost, the time got extended because he changed practice without telling me and was billing me for every thing. Don't hire him even if he is offering his services for free.

This lawyer was totally incompetent. He cost me thousands of dollars not knowing tax laws during a divorce. He told me that I could claim my kids on my tax return since I was supporting them. He said that if the IRS had questions we could show them the support. As it turns out, that is not true. Sinc...e the kids were living with their mother, she had to sign a form 8336, which she didn't for 2 years. He kept continuing court hearings, charged me over $20,000 without doing anything. He kept writing letters to the other attorney after I said to stop writing them. Of course he charged me for each letter. During the initial hearing, the judge set a temporary support order back dated. I got a bill for over $10000 from the probation department that I owed my wife. He didn't bring up the fact that I had been paying all the bills from the date the Judge had set. I had to go back to court and have that fixed. Of course again I had to pay him more money.

I have been a client of Richard since 2005 which tells you what a messy divorce this is but it is really over except for a few problems with other family members including the dog. He has taken calls at all hours of the day including some evenings and calls from cruise ships. He gave me more time I a...m sure than all of his clients put together and their are many. At times I would call him on his vacation and he never minded and vice versa. He even helped me learn to use the computer when I thought all hope was gone.He has helped me as farfas hisfees go
