About me

Rich Grungo is a trial attorney, concentrating on personal injury litigation. His innovative trial strategies have resulted in over $60 million in jury verdicts and settlements since 2006. Mr. Grungo is a New Jersey Supreme Court-Certified Civil Trial Attorney, a distinction held by less than 2% of lawyers in the state. With an emphasis on matters involving catastrophic injury and death, he has won major settlements and jury awards in a wide array of practice areas, including workplace injuries, medical malpractice, auto accidents, abuse and neglect, dangerous premises, improper insurance practices and alcohol-related injuries and deaths.  Mr. Grungo has successfully litigated cases against some of America's largest corporations. On occasion, Mr. Grungo has been retained to defend select individual and corporate clients. Mr. Grungo handles cases in New Jersey and Pennsylvania and works with local counsel on cases in other states.

Born in Mount Holly, New Jersey. Mr. Grungo began his law career as a summer clerk at Archer & Greiner. Upon graduation from law school, he joined the firm's Litigation Department. Trained by some of the best lawyers in the state, Mr. Grungo learned the skills necessary to be an effective trial advocate and quickly rose to Partner in the firm.  On January 1, 2015, Mr. Grungo launched his own firm - - Grungo Colarulo, LLC.

  • $26 million verdict for autistic child's abuse by therapist. (See news story

  • $4 million verdict for medical malpractice involving failure to diagnose a heart condition. (See news story). The 12th largest personal injury award in New Jersey in 2006.

  • $6.5 million for the work-related death of a union foreman.

  • $3 million settlement for gynecological malpractice.

  • $2.75 million verdict for over service of alcohol. (See news story)

  • $2.5 million for death caused by an insurance company's improper claims practices.

  • $290,000 verdict for injured stone mason.

  • $235,000 settlement for car accident victim.

Mr. Grungo’s trial skills and experience have been recognized by the New Jersey Supreme Court, which designated him a Certified Civil Trial Attorney following a rigorous, court-supervised regimen of peer and judicial review, analysis of trial experience, continuing education and written examination.

As a Certified Civil Trial Attorney, Mr. Grungo routinely pays referral fees to attorneys who send matters to him for his trial expertise [Rule 1:39-6(d)]. 

His peers have repeatedly recognized Mr. Grungo's trial skills, resulting in his designation as a Super Lawyers Rising Star in 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011.  In addition, Mr. Grungo was selected in 2011 for the New Jersey Law Journal's prestigious "40 Under 40" list of the state's top young attorneys.  

Mr. Grungo is a member of the New Jersey Association for Justice, Pennsylvania Association for Justice, Philadelphia Trial Lawyers Association and Philadelphia Bar Association. The New Jersey Institute of Continuing Education selected Mr. Grungo to teach civil trial preparation to newly admitted attorneys as part of their continuing education requirements. He has lectured at the New Jersey Association for Justice annual Boardwalk seminar on medical malpractice, as well as at various county bar associations on topics related to personal injury litigation.
