I am licensed to practice before the State Courts of New Jersey, the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey, the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of New Jersey, the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, and the Supreme Court of the United States. I was awarded a J.D. degree in 1980 from Rutgers School of Law where he was elected to the Appellate Moot Court Board. I graduated with an A.B. degree in Economics in 1977 from Rutgers College, and was honored with induction into Omicron Delta Epsilon, the International Economics Honor Society.

I served as Judicial Law Clerk to the Hon. Warren Brody and the Hon. John J. Callahan of the Superior Court of New Jersey for the 1980-1981 Court Term. I am very proud to be peer-review rated "5 of 5" "AV PREEMINENT" (the highest rating) by the internationally recognized "Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory". I am included in the "Inside New Jersey" 2012 edition and the "New Jersey Legal Leaders" 2013 and 2014 editions of "New Jersey's Top Rated Lawyers" in the areas of Bankruptcy and Debtor and Creditor. I have been listed as a "NEW JERSEY SUPER LAWYER" and have been designated as a "MASTER" in the New Jersey Bankruptcy Inn of Court. Additionally, I served for many years as an appointed member and Vice-Chair of the Randolph Township Economic Development Committee.

My insolvency law experience and practice extends to representing Chapter 7 and 11 bankruptcy trustees, corporate, individual and non-profit Chapter 11 debtors-in-possession (including the YMCA of Newark & Vicinity, Harvard Industries, Inc., and Union Nursing Home), and unsecured creditors' committees in Chapter 11 reorganization and orderly liquidation proceedings, as well as secured and unsecured creditors including lenders, equipment lessors and landlords.  I have also represented many individuals and businesses in connection with out-of-court debt settlement and restructuring.

I am a faculty member, have written a number of articles on a variety of bankruptcy-related topics and have spoken to various groups and organizations, including:

I am also attorney of record in a number of reported Federal and New Jersey State court decisions.

He helped me
Stuart saved the day! He did not ask a penny. A credit card collector from took me to court, I was not served with a summon. Stuart advised what I should do, and what to say. Stuart has the knowledge and he cares. Thanks Stuart! :)

Highly Qualified and Proficient; Expert at Handling a number of Legal Issues for me.
Mr. Brecher has support me in a number of various legal matters including court appearances and property settlements. He is most proficient and professional in his approach to all of the legal matters that I was faced with. He worked with me to understand the implications of the decisions needed in each of the case. He was very understanding of my lack of knowledge of the legal system - I am an engineer - and he made the various processes and procedures that I went through as painless and quick as possible.

"I have known Stu for over 40 years, first as a friend and classmate and then, professionally. He has consistently exhibited a level of intensity and commitment to the task at hand that few practitioners possess. I have frequently sought his counsel during the course of my representation of clients. In one particular instance, I needed help in understanding how a Chapter 7 proceeding in which my client's debts were discharged might impact his personal injury case. Stu gave me practical, concise information that I was able to understand and guided me through the maze of Bankruptcy Law. In another instance, I needed his assistance in collecting on a debt. Again, I got a straight answer to my questions and was able to handle the matter. Stu's passion for the law in general and specifically in representing his clients is palpable. After nearly 32 years of practice, that is quite an accomplishment."
