Matthew Kostiuk Blaine

MATTHEW BLAINE is an associate who works in the Firm’s Corporate/Commercial Department. He is a four-time Super Lawyer Rising Star ** (2011 – 2014) who values persistence, credibility and paying attention to his clients’ needs.

As an attorney who specializes in Corporate/Commercial litigation, Matt has a broad array of experience and has handled numerous cases throughout New Jersey - and at times in New York, Delaware and Pennsylvania - for both plaintiffs and defendants.  Matt has been personally involved in cases concerning contractual disputes, business torts, fiduciary responsibilities, oppressed shareholder allegations, landlord-tenant disputes, construction disputes, insurance coverage disputes, eDiscovery issues, intellectual property rights, consumer fraud allegations, disputes concerning real property, restrictive covenants and non-compete agreements, arbitration, bankruptcy adversary proceedings, fraudulent transfer, successor and alter ego liability, copyright infringement and allegations of individual liability for corporate debts. 

Matt is also involved in the transactional-side of the law; he has experience with business formation, acquisition, merger/consolidation and dissolution. 

Prior to joining the Firm, Matt served as an appellate clerk for the Honorable Linda G. Baxter, Superior Court of New Jersey, Appellate Division.

During law school and college, Matt interned for United States Magistrate Judge Tonianne J. Bongiovanni. He was also an executive board member for the Rutgers Journal of Law & Religion.  As an oralist for the 2007-2008 Rutgers-Camden Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot Court team, Matt traveled to Vienna, Austria and helped place his team in the top 16 of 203 participating international law schools.  During college, Matt was an intern for the United States Attorney’s Office, District of New Jersey, Trenton branch, and also served as President of his fraternity, Nu Beta Phi Gamma Delta (FIJI).

Matt is admitted to practice in New Jersey Superior Court and New Jersey District Court, as well as the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.  He is a member of the New Jersey State Bar Association, its Young Lawyers Division and Business Law Section, the Monmouth Bar Association and BNI – Freehold.

To be eligible for inclusion in Rising Stars, a candidate must be either 40 years old or younger or in practice for ten years or less. Selection for inclusion to the Rising Star listing follows a 3-step selection process which is a comprehensive, good-faith and detailed attempt to produce a list of lawyers that have attained high peer recognition, meet ethical standards, and have demonstrated some degree of achievement in their field. Step one is the creation of the candidate pool where lawyers enter the candidate pool by being formally nominated by a peer; identified by the research department in the "Star Search" process; or informally nominated.  The second step includes the evaluation of the lawyers in the candidate pool.  Rising Stars' research department evaluates each candidate based on these 12 indicators of peer recognition and professional achievement: verdicts and settlements; transactions; representative clients; experience; honors and awards; special licenses and certifications; position within law firm; bar and or other professional activity; pro bono and community service as a lawyer; scholarly lectures and writings; education and employment background; and other outstanding achievements.  These indicators are not treated equally; some have a higher maximum point value than others.  The final selection for the Rising Stars list is by grouping candidates into four firm-size categories.  Those with the highest point totals from each category are selected.
