Problem with zoning board
With regard to a fence to enclose a back-yard swimming pool, the Town was making unreasonable, unsolvable demands on us and being totally unresponsive. Mr. Kates accompanied us to a meeting and negotiated with the local officials to obtain a reasonable settlement.

Professional, Competent, Courteous - everything you need
Mr. Kates successfully won an arbitration award against a pair unscrupulous design/build contractors who, after 1) overcharging me, 2) lying to me about the status of final inspections, and 3) rendering my home completely uninhabitable, sued me for 'non-payment'.

Excellent land use advisor
Mr. Kates is a seasoned veteran of NJ land use and municipal law, and we have benefitted greatly from his advice. He listens, which is refreshing because so many attorneys love the sound of their own voice. He is also prompt to reply to emails and phone calls. He's a great attorney and I feel fortunate he is representing us.
