I always knew I would become a lawyer. Even from the age of six when I would complete my homework while my father studied his law books, my curiosity had been sparked. During seventh grade I wrote a fifty-eight-page report, complete with a page entitled “Advantages and Disadvantages of becoming a Lawyer”. Admittedly, some of the concepts discussed in it were idealized or more realistic than others. Nonetheless, the insights I gained from interviewing other lawyers and even the Chief Justice of the New Jersey Supreme Court had piqued my interest.
My grandfather, four uncles and father before me were all lawyers, as is my brother. If I could convey one message to potential clients who are reading this, it would be that being a lawyer is not merely a business to me, it is a profession and my passion. My grandfather and mentor Victor Ruskin, a skilled and well-respected lawyer for many years in Jersey City taught me the importance of providing one-on-one personalized attention to each and every client. I have never forgotten this.
For over 40 years I have been representing clients in all types of civil cases. I have the distinction of being a Certified Civil Trial Attorney a professional litigation qualification held by less than 2% of New Jersey attorneys. My practice includes divorce matters, legal malpractice (suing other lawyers), medical malpractice (claims against doctors or other health-care providers) and other complex civil litigation matters. I also realize the benefits of settlement and I have been qualified and active as a mediator in family matters and civil disputes for over twenty years. I am also active in Collaborative Divorce, an innovative and often more effective path than mediation, to resolve family disputes. See the differences and similarities among the various Divorce Models: Collaboration, Mediation and Litigation.
I have always prided myself on staying up to date in the diverse areas of civil litigation by following new cases and regularly attending continuing legal education courses on various topics relating to the areas of law in which I concentrate. Similarly, I have been extensively trained in mediation and collaborative law and continue to frequently attend, moderate or lecture at seminars on these topics.
I serve clients in all the Northern New Jersey counties including Essex, Morris, Hudson, Union, Bergen, Passaic and Sussex. My office is conveniently located in Montclair. Please feel free to reach out to me. There is never a charge for initial telephone consultations.

I received a call from a relative in need of a family law attorney referral in New Jersey. Without hesitation, I referred Dan. We had an opportunity to discuss various family law related matters and he has become a great referral for all of my relatives and friends in New Jersey.
