Pat is an intellectual property lawyer and a registered patent attorney with many years of industrial experience in product development and manufacturing. Prior to entering law practice, Pat was a chemist in the pharmaceutical industry, holding positions from bench chemist to Research Director. While working in consumer products for a Fortune 100 company, she developed a fascination for trademarks, learning the importance of branding.

She chose law, specifically intellectual property law, as a second career because of a long-held fascination with patents and trademarks. After spending decades in the pharmaceutical industry working with patents, either researching for submission in new patent applications or developing a non-infringing alternate to a competitor’s patent, she wanted to help others file their own applications.

Pat is fascinated by manufacturing and loves to watch things being made. Shortly after her wedding, she dragged her groom back to his hometown of Louisville to watch baseball bats, cigarettes and bourbon being made. She spent as much time in manufacturing plants as she did at the lab bench when working in the pharmaceutical industry, watching new ideas and products launch and become reality.

Pat’s patent practice has not been limited to just life sciences, but also includes a wide range of industrial consumer products. She has helped clients obtain patents in a wide range of art, from clothing to automobile parts, from baby accessories to sporting equipment.

Pat likes to make things herself, too. She has brewed her own beer, made her own clothes and caught dinner from the deep blue sea. She has tried her hand at flying a plane, a helicopter and operating a motorcycle.

Ms. Werschulz received her B.S. degree in Chemistry from Chatham College of Pittsburgh, her M.B.A from Fordham University and her J.D from Rutgers School of Law–Newark. Ms. Werschulz has a history of academic excellence, receiving the ABA/BNA Award for Excellence in Intellectual Property Law at Rutgers, the Dean’s Award for Academic Excellence at Fordham, graduating with the highest G.P.A. in her class and the American Chemical Society Outstanding Senior Chemistry Major as an undergraduate.

The best in the biz!
Pat is an exceptional patent attorney! Pat is dedicated, knowledgeable and always goes the extra step to explain the details of the process to me. She truly cares about her clients and has succeeded in even the challenging aspects of my filing. I am so fortunate to have Pat as my patent attorney. Not only is she the best at what she does, she is an incredibly kind and wonderful person. It's terrific to not have to worry about this process; with Pat you know you are great hands. Simply the best!

Thanks for the recommendation. I try to put myself in the client's shoes, who are starting a complicated process with little or no prior experience and looking for accessible guidance. Try to treat everyone fairly and kindly.

The best around!
Pat is an amazing patent lawyer! Personable and experienced, you can tell she really cares about her clients and doing a professional job. I came to her with somewhat of a deadline, and next to no experience filing a patent – she spent a lot of time talking with me and working on my utility patent. You could tell that she knew what she was doing and had a lot of experience in various types of patent filings. I felt in safe hands with her, I would highly recommend her!

Thanks for the kind words. Like everyone, learning about a fast-approaching deadline at the 11th hour is not a great spot to be in, but I have never missed a filing deadline as an attorney just as I never missed a deadline for results in my lab. Looking forward to working with Cece through the patent process.

A competent, knowledgeable lawyer
Patricia worked on a utility patent for me and overcame many obstacles that other lawyers said were insurmountable. She challenged patent examiners with legal precedents they were unfamiliar with, in an effort to get my application approved. When they were stubborn, despite the law being on her side, she still worked within the framework they set to amend my application to get it approved. She did so with novel ideas and expert legalese that allowed for broad claims that would protect my invention. Patricia's willing to brainstorm ideas for patent amendments and she answer questions in a timely matter.

Appreciate these comments, but credit goes to Edward who had confidence in me and the process. He did not give up. I mailed Edward his Letters Patent this month, I am happy to say. When clients are willing to partner in the process, the chances of success are greater.

Excellent Patent Attorney
Patricia is excellent to work with. She genuinely cares for her clients and puts the necessary time and effort into the patent applications she rights. She helped us with 2 utility patent applications (both successful with the USPTO).

Thanks for the kind words. I enjoyed working with this mother-daughter team that had many great ideas in the clothing field. Having made my own clothing, I have knowledge on garment construction that puts inventors at ease because I understand their invention at a deep level. Looking forward to working with this team again.
