Stephen is the Founder and Managing Partner of Bourtin Law, PLLC's Stamford, Connecticut and Midtown Manhattan offices. Stephen was raised in Wilton, Connecticut, went to college and graduate school in Boston, Massachusetts and served a significant portion of his career as a commercial litigator in New York City. After graduating law school and completing a federal district court clerkship, he began as an associate in the Employment Law department of an international law firm and then worked as a litigation associate for a high profile and nationally recognized litigation firm founded by famed litigator David Boies. He has spent his career practicing as a commercial litigator and also working in the employment law context, providing advice, counsel and litigating in a broad range of fields including contractual disputes, business litigation, corporate dissolution, non-compete, trademark, real estate, class action, FINRA and securities litigations. Stephen has also represented clients in defense of various governmental and regulatory investigations, civil and criminal actions.
Stephen graduated cum laude from Boston College Law School, after receiveing his Bachelors of Arts degree from Boston College with a double major of History and Political Science, he served as a federal law clerk to the Honorable Richard W. Vollmer, Jr. of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Alabama. While in law school, Stephen served as Executive Editor of the Boston College Law School International and Comparative Law Review. He has successfully represented and assisted both individual and employer clients in a variety of employment and commercial litigation disputes and negotiations. In less contentious matters, he has succesfully advised, counseled and negotiated numerous executive employment contracts, deferred compensation agreements, non-compete agreements and severance agreements and packages.
