Very disappointing experience

I hired Attorney Ritter two years ago to represent me in an extremely difficult post-settlement case. I liked her personally, but professionally felt she was out of her depth. I was never confident that she had a strong handle on or thorough understanding of most of the financials. This resulted i...n many unnecessary billable hours ,over many months. It actually stretched out over a longer time than the divorce itself. In the end, her fees cost me nearly 25% of the distribution I eventually received. The case itself was straightforward. My ex flat out refused to hand over my share of the distribution, as outlined in the original (and very poorly executed) divorce settlement agreement. Nearly two years passed before I received anything. Attorney Ritter was consistently negligent in returning calls and communicating important information throughout . This included not telling me that she'd decided to return to the law firm that represented my ex, until a day after the case finally wrapped. There was no doubt in my mind that this was a conflict of interest. When I mentioned this, Attorney Ritter told me that she had 'just made the decision." It was too late for me to pivot and she knew this. The return to the law firm, where she had previously worked, lasted about ten months. If I had taken a closer look at her work history prior to hiring her, I would not have done so. It's chaotic and she's jumped from firm to firm. She moved from one firm, then to two others within the past three years. But here is the main reason I am taking time to write this review : Before moving to her current position at Halloran and Sage, Attorney Ritter offered to assist me with my alimony modification filing. I figured this would be a good fit, given that she had a reasonable overview of my entire divorce odyssey/nightmare. At this point, my ex had spent the past three years dragging me back and forth to court, post-settlement. As an aside, don't ask me why this sort of behavior is tolerated. Ask the family courts of Connecticut and their judges why insane ex's are allowed to weaponize the legal system in order to continue their victimization and abuse. I would really like an answer to this one. But, returning to my main point, Attorney Ritter stated that when she settled into her new position at Halloran and Sage, we'd meet to discuss my alimony modification case and begin to move it forward. I've attempted to contact her at least 25 times over the past four months. Not once have I received a response. At one point I left a message asking if she was okay and to just let me know that she was still on this earth. Again, no response. I also told her that at this juncture, all I was looking for was a road map. Obviously, there was no way for us to continue to work together, though the reasons were not communicated to me. I wasn't asking for explanations; I only wanted to know what my next move should be. Any attorney who has been paid over $25k in fees, has an obligation to respond to her client, even if she's had a change of mind in terms of on-going representation. Now I shall return to the beginning. Attorney Ritter never once returned calls or communicated within a timely, reasonable and decent timeframe. This sort of behavior, coming from someone charging upwards of $500 per hour and who is meant to have your back, only increases the client's anxiety and stress levels exponentially. It's inexcusable, arrogant and stupid and has ultimately led to a review like this one.

Serious Concerns About Conduct and Case Outcome

My experience with New Haven Divorce and Separation Lawyer Alexandra Collet Ritter was extremely difficult and distressing. Throughout the process, I felt unsupported, uninformed, and left to navigate critical moments on my own. She never agreed to the Master’s Counsel proposal, and at one point even... allowed my daughter to testify against me, which added significant emotional and legal strain. Important updates were not communicated to me in a timely or clear manner, and decisions that directly affected my case were handled without the transparency I expected from legal representation. In the end, the final outcome was devastating: my ex‑wife walked away with approximately 95% of everything, and I was left with only 5%.
