Jonathan Ross Sills

I contacted Tomeo Sills based on an Internet search for DUI related law firms, in order to appeal false violations on an Ignition Interlock Device. My experiences up to the point of contacting this firm were not good. In most cases I would make multiple calls, which were not returned, and the answers... I received when I DID get a response, did not inspire confidence. Basically, nobody seemed to know how these types of cases worked. From my first call to Tomeo Sills, it was apparent to me that I had found the right firm. Attorney Jonathan Sills returned my call very promptly, listened to my saga and explained to me exactly what the process would be and the likely outcome or possible alternate scenarios. I initially hired a close friend who happens to be a great lawyer and friend that I deeply respect. However, he and I had a disagreement over the strategy - I wanted to plead 'not guilty' and he wanted me to apply for the 'Accelerated Rehab' program. By chance, I ended up talking to Attorney Sills, a...nd I formally switched to him bc his expertise in DUI was very expansive and he agreed that pleading 'not guilty' would be the way to go. (Let me state for the record that this arrest should never have been made nor should it have been prosecuted.) Atty Sills immediately reviewed my case and connected a team of experts as far away as Georgia to form my defense. During the trial, which took seven days, I thought Atty Sills did a magnificent job of countering the prosecution, and his knowledge was so superior, I dare to say that they looked unprepared to prosecute me. There wasn't anything that Atty Sills didn't cover. In the end of that loooong 7 day trial, I was found "Not Guilty" in about 20 minutes by the jury. You should know that it is very expensive to defend a DUI case (especialllyy when you switch Atty's). If I had started out with Atty Sills, My costs, including witnesses, travel, etc, would have been approx $24,000. I realize that my option was just to accept the State's offer of Accelerated rehab, basically a free pass, but that would have meant I would had to plead guilty. As a matter of personal cause and principle, I decided to go to trial and spend all that money. The trial was nerve racking, and I almost regretted my decision a few times, but in the end, I prevailed because of Aty Sills efforts. FYI, it was 10 months from the time I was arrested until the trial! I am really quite mad that I had to spend all that money, but that was because the State did not see the ridiculousness of their position and decided to waste taxpayer money and deprive jurors of their earnings. To me, it was still money well spent. My lesson was this: If you want to save your reputation, go with the best to start. Oh yeah, and always, always, always keep your mouth zipped shut when the cops ask you ANY type of question, even the simplest one. I was very disheartened that the point of our Justice system is NOT to administer justice. The point is to "win", no matter the cost or the truth. I was sure naive before this incident.
