Tim McLaughlin serves as General Counsel for Great NH Restaurants, Inc., where he advises the leadership of a family of hospitality, real estate and operating companies on corporate governance, litigation, employment, commercial transactions, regulatory compliance, real estate and risk management.
Before moving in-house, Tim spent fifteen years in private practice representing businesses, institutions and individuals in complex litigation, appeals, arbitrations and corporate matters. His experience includes jury and bench trials, published federal appellate decisions, major commercial arbitrations, fiduciary litigation, employment disputes and service as outside general counsel to a variety of companies. His representative matters include serving as first-chair arbitration counsel in obtaining an approximately $29 million commercial arbitration award, second-chair trial counsel in Anagnost v. Gill, resulting in a $ million jury verdict, and participating in the litigation team in Murphy v. DCI Biologicals Orlando, LLC, which resulted in a published decision by the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit.
Prior to becoming a lawyer, Tim served as a Captain in the United States Marine Corps. Following the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, he was assigned to the Pentagon and assisted with rescue and recovery efforts. During Operation Iraqi Freedom, he served as an M1A1 Abrams tank platoon commander attached to Third Battalion, Fourth Marines during the battalion’s invasion of Iraq and entry into Baghdad’s Firdos Square. He later worked in Sarajevo as an intern with the War Crimes Section of the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina, assisting investigations and prosecutions arising from the 1995 Srebrenica genocide.
Tim earned his Bachelor of Arts in Russian from the College of the Holy Cross and his Juris Doctor from Boston College Law School.
