When I first consulted him about my separation and divorce I was not anticipating the high level of conflict my divorce would have. Rui was there for me every step of the way offering his extensive legal expertis...e, support, compassion, and the hard truths of the family court system as necessary. He was able to get my children and I out of an abusive situation and obtain an advantageous divorce agreement both financially and in regard to custody arrangements. When my ex has attempted to drag me back into family court Rui and his team have been there to assist me quickly and with excellent results. Rui is mindful of his clients’ time and money, and is a caring and honest person. I would recommend him wholeheartedly to anyone in need of a family court attorney.

Worth every penny! Do you want to win at any cost? Want to crush the lives of others? Ruin them financially? Want to put your wife and children out with nothing…this is your guy. Seize everything and run? He can help! He knows just what to do to get away with it. He will take the case right up to tra...il and then withdraw….unbelievably talented at manipulation. He can come up with lots of stall tactics to drag your case out so you can out spend your opponent causing them to be broke and unable to continue litigation. If he used his talent for good the world would be a better place! Best lawyer ever….

I had a very complicated domestic case that lasted over a year. Rui was very knowledgable and strategic in all aspects of the case. The custody portion was very emotional, and Rui was able to find amicable solutions in which the children were put above the fray. He was there with wise counsel and ref...errals helping to set up outside support systems. The economic portion of the case was very complicated. Rui was able to find solutions and strategies that enabled me to avoid a trial. The agreement was fair and Rui’s stratagies saved me a lot of money in the long term. His experience with domestic cases and calm demeanor are an asset during a highly emotional time. I highly recommend Rui and think of him as one of the best.

From the first time I talked to Rui I knew that I was going to be better off . He is personable and very knowledgeable about the LAW. He also has a way of explaining things so even a simple man like me could understand. He kept all his promises and had me well prepared and ready for court . I spoke w...ith so many attornys on this matter for years before I met Mr Alves . He is the only one that showed me results and seemed to care more about my case then money !!!!!

At $900/hour you expect your lawyer to understand you. While Rui knows his law, and has a pleasant demeanor, he missed the ability to represent me in a way that I felt was in my best interests. I don't think Rui ever really believed my side, and it wasn't until the end of the process when he finall...y got to see how petty, manipulative and deceptive ex-wife was/is. Furthermore, I don't think the appropriate measures were taken to help keep his billings down. For example, I asked a one sentence off-the-cuff question, and as a response i received a 2,500 word email. Typing that email likely took 2 hours. A 10 minute phone call would have sufficed to answer a non-research-related question. This was a gross misuse of time. Another example is that he would spend time with all of my ex's mundane complaints and requests. My expectation was that he would push back on these requests, because every single time, it turned out to be frivolous and nothing came out of it. Well, except for a couple thousand dollars for his time on a non-issue. This was extremely frustrating. Lastly, the burden on proof always fell on me to prove my ex's expense numbers were wrong, instead of requesting her receipts. And I spent many hours to prove they were wrong, despite the fact these were HER expenses. Every time there was a dispute with something, I PROVED her wrong, and again, I was the one that spent had to line Rui's pockets with more cash. She litigated against me , yet the burden of proof was on ME to get all HER expenses and mine. I would NOT recommend Rui if you are a male facing an female ex trying to squeeze every dime of money from you. If you hire Rui, make sure you keep an eye on his hours.
