Bad experience…

Vicki Shemin and Jonathan Fields represented me for a simple divorce. It was a short-term marriage with no children. No discovery was done and we only appeared in Court twice, once for a motion hearing and again to present a full settlement agreement. The emergency motion was filed by my ex-husband a...nd only necessary due to Attorney Shemim’s advice for me to change the locks to our former marital home. This was an action I wouldn’t have taken otherwise, ultimately escalated the amount of animosity in the case and the judge disapprovingly viewed as a form of self-help. Somehow this all amounted to attorney’s fees exceeding $82,000, the last $19,000 or so I am being repeatedly hounded for while several requests to discuss my billing continue to be ignored. Their paralegal has an hourly rate comparable to what many firms charge for a mid-level associate, and over billed for simple administrative tasks (i.e. two hours to divide the numbers on my biweekly paycheck in half). This was not a high-net worth case, there were no unusual or extraordinary issues to be dealt with, and the total amount billed for a matter that was resolved in less than a year actually exceeded the amount I received as a settlement. I would have ended up in a better position financially if I didn’t have counsel at all. I ended up negotiating the final terms of the settlement directly with my ex anyway. Perhaps this firm is great for those who are extremely wealthy where the total amount of legal fees is of no concern, but for anyone like myself, making a living as an RN, expect to pay top-notch prices while consistently being treated as a low-priority client. There are certainly better options out there.

Excellent

I hired Vicki to represent me in a high conflict divorce. She was quickly able to understand my unique needs and guided me through some challenging moments with grace and creativity. Vicki set clear expectations during an emotional and confusing time, and helped me navigate the options that were av...ailable to me in order to bring the divorce to a close. I trust Vicki's instincts and was so pleased with the unwavering respect and integrity that she brought to the process; especially when we were contending with the opposite from the other party. I would definitely recommend Vicki to anyone looking for a collaborative lawyer.

Wonderful and Caring

Vicki recently represented me in a divorce and throughout the process she helped me to find my voice. I felt held, cared for and protected all the while knew she was fighting hard for me. Vicki has an amazing combination of kindness and toughness. By the end of the divorce I realized we’d become part...ners in trying to make sure both my ex and I had a fair and equitable outcome. I have endless respect and appreciation for Vicki, for facilitating and coaching me through this difficult chapter of my life.

Both highly competent and sensitive to the human element

Vicki was a delight to work with during my divorce. She understood that the children were a higher priority to me than getting every last dollar, and she respected that while at the same time reining me in when I was considering decisions that could have done real harm to me financially. She was al...so genuinely caring and supportive -- qualities that can't be overestimated in the midst of a divorce. In my case, she also immediately grasped the dynamics that make every divorce unique.

Wonderful attorney

Vicki Shemin is an excellent attorney. She is professional, intelligent, and kind. I consulted with her regarding a family member's divorce. Vicki provided legal guidance that was very helpful in making our decisions. She also followed up the next day with more information.
