When people ask what I do, I’m always proud to say I am a trial attorney; I fight on behalf of my clients in the courtroom whether it’s at trial, a hearing, or in tough negotiations. I understand deeply that dealing with a civil or criminal court case can be at times confusing, frustrating, even terrifying for those outside the system. That is why in my role as an attorney, I work with and listen closely to my clients to demystify this system, help them understand its procedure, and build effective strategies to try to get the best possible outcome for them. When I joined the Miami Public Defender’s office, I learned how to zealously fight for my clients in some of the most high-stakes situations a person can face: when their freedom is in jeopardy. In that fast-paced court system, the arguments I made to the court, the motions I litigated, and the witnesses I called were all that stood between my clients and separation from their families, jobs, and futures. My time as a public defender taught me to litigate both aggressively and strategically and to be a voice for my clients in a court system where no one else would. I have taken the lessons I learned there to my practice today, and proudly use that knowledge behalf of my clients involved in both criminal and civil litigation.
