Jill Havens

I hired Jill Havens to go over two retirement documents: 1) where I resigned my faculty position and 2) a document where I give up my tenure at my institution. Jill took the time I needed to explain each of the points in both of the documents. She also had my institution rewrite one paragraph for me.... After talking with her, I felt I understood the documents and was confident in signing them.

I went to Jill feeling absolutely hopeless about my claim, and terrified with the $22,000 debt the state of MA was claiming I owed them after my determination being overturned. She not only got my determination and overpayment overturned, but I ended up getting another $10,000 that they owed me in pe...nding payments from the year my claim was tied up. I had debt racked up from trying to survive without my payments and had no way of paying that money back if they ended up wanting it. Jill really saved me from a terrible situation and kept me calm throughout with her stern and informed personality. I just knew she had it under control when I first met with her, and I was right. I would recommend Jill to anybody who feels they have been wronged or feels they are owed money by their jobs or the department of unemployment, even if it feels hopeless, because if anybody can find a solution- it's Jill.

Two years ago Searched and made many phone calls to other law offices in my area not one did unemployment over payment issue so i googled and Jill's office came up Reach out and they were back to me promptly . Jill explained to me in great detail How to go thru the process of request a hearing on la...te appeal I thought when i appealed one issue that problems were all resolved I learned 6 month latter they were not and i sill owed money. 2 years latter i heard from MA DUA for a Hearing reached back out to Jill send her Many Hearing folders she went thru them explained how difficult may case was and told me frankly my chance of losing was high. but with the amount of money i had on line it was worth it for me to appeal. I Hired Jill to attend the hearing with me she did a great job prepping me for the questions they may ask. All and all said I end up getting * issue with MA DUA reversed in my favor. would highly recommend Jill!! she is very Honest and her rates are fair

I was having a hard time finding a lawyer to even setup a consultation with me for an issue with the DUA; I was in a grey-area where I didn't need someone on retainer but I desperately needed advice. Everyone was too busy with other unemployment cases (there's been a spike lately) or were unintereste...d in talking until I had a hearing scheduled. Jill fit in a meeting quickly because she knew I was on the clock. She listened carefully and was "real" with me when she felt something would work or not work. She asked enough questions that she realized perhaps my case didn't need a lawyer at all but rather the help of my local state representative. Within a few days, I had my situation resolved (big thanks to my state rep, too). I am utterly grateful that Jill pointed me in this direction even if it meant not getting more work from me on an appeal case. I think her advice shows creative problem solving and a real concern about the client, not just gaining work. I hope it isn't necessary, but I'll definitely be returning to Jill if I ever have another issue with employment related issues.
