About Thomas

Learn Thomas’s areas of practice.

I have broad experience in Immigration Law.  My passion for immigration law began in 1998 when I represented a Cambodian-Chinese woman in seeking Asylum on a case where she had missed the 1 year filing deadline.  The case was ultimately successful and she was granted Asylum by the Immigration Judge. She now lives in the United States with her husband and children.

From that time on, the Immigration part of my practice grew. Today, my office does mostly Family Immigration – including Embassy Processing, Deportation Defense, Waivers, Appeals of Decisions, BIA  Appeals, District Court Litigation and Petitions for Review. We do Petitions for Spouses, Parents, Siblings, Children, Fiancés, Naturalization, Removal of Condition

(10 Year Green Card), Orders of Supervision and ERO Surrenders.

Beyond the everyday work my office performs, I am particularly proud of having the leading 1st Circuit case on Widow eligibility for spousal visas. Taing v. Napolitano, 567 F.3d 19 (1st Cir. 2009).  Another point of pride is my active and successful practice today responding to Spouse cases that have been returned from the Embassy after interview to USCIS be revoked – I am quite successful in rebutting the Embassy request and getting the Spouse here.  I do Joint Tax Returns in the Office where there is a Foreign Spouse.  As I became a CAA (Certifying Acceptance Agent), therefore we can complete a W-7 ITIN request without sending your foreign spouse’s passport to IRS.  We have found that filing a Joint tax return with a foreign Spouse is something the Embassy likes to see.

Since the late 1980s, I have been involved professionally with the preparation of personal income taxes.  Prior to my admission to the Bar in 1994, I was an Enrolled Agent.  I still keep current with tax matters, but it is not a full time effort. I am a member of the United States Tax Court Bar and have litigated cases before the Tax Court including a significant case on Veteran’s rights that made the Internal Revenue Service change position and cease taxing certain rehabilitative veterans benefits.

Wallace v. Commissioner, 128 T.C. 11 (2007)

I have a fairly busy Personal Injury practice.  We do Auto Cases, and some Workers Comp. We are not so large or busy that your case will get lost. We try hard to pay personal attention to each case.  We can settle or sue, it just depends on the case and what the victim’s goals are.  We do litigate cases in other areas. Our acceptance is on a case by case basis, but we are available to represent plaintiffs and consult on possible litigation.  We do Divorces and Child Support matters. I take pride in being able to do most divorces, even where there is a missing party.  We do Social Security cases – SSI and DI.

I hired Mr. Stylianos to help my wife and I with her immigration visa to the states. He was very professional, asked a lot of questions and was patient and took the time to work around my schedule since I work overseas and am not in the same time zone. We felt he was the person we needed to work on our case, because of his and his staff’s commitment to helping us reach our goal. We recently were granted my wife’s immigration visa and will be traveling to the states to continue our life there. I highly recommend using Mr. Stylianos and his staff to assist you in your quest for immigration as it can be daunting without assistance.

Marriage and Immigration Status
I requested Mr. Stylianos Attorney services to help me with my marriage case due to my immigration status. Since my first interview with him I recognize he was the right lawyer to help me with my case, very professional and knowledgeable of his work. We schedule a meeting to discuss all the related USA legal requirements and also he provided me with information regarding what marriage case entails. During that time frame my spouse health deteriorated and end up in the hospital. Mr. Stylanos support during the time was exceeding my expectations, he kept in touch with me constantly to let me know the progress of my marriage case, also requesting additional information due to current situation, including letters from Hospital Doctors due to my spouse deteriorating health situation. and providing me a lot of support. Additionally, Immigration personnel worked very closely with Mr. Stylianos to be able to perform the immigration interview in my house. All the process was efficiently managed by him making possible the interview and I received the approval for the Green Card. The process was successfully completed due to all the effort and support from Mr. Stylianos. I am very grateful and will recommend his services to anyone.

Very Rude Lawyer
This Lawyer was very very rude to me and my ex wife when we visited him in his office for divorce consultation. He disrespected me so much to the extent that he referred to my ex wife to another Lawyer in front of my face. We went to him because his divorce fees were very low compare to other Lawyers in the area. I wouldn't recommend to anyone.

Very Poor Lawyer
I Hired Stylianos about 3 years ago when I was trying to get my wife citizenship, she had been in the U.S. since she was 6 and he said it would be no problem to get her citizenship. He did try many different ways to get it I will give him that, but he did not keep us in the loop in any way shape or form, I had to go in to his office to ask him what was going on all the time or I would never hear from him, he was unsuccessful in getting her anything but her work authorization card which we had already been doing ourselves, and suspiciously about 8 months after we stopped working with him someone from USCIS calls and starts talking about deportation. Right after we hired him I left for Afghanistan and he said that would help a lot, but he talked to my wife once the whole time I was gone and when I returned I went to his office and he said the only thing he can think of to do was to send her back to her home country which she knows no one there, and maybe she would be able to come back, he is a hack and I would not even recommend him to an enemy. He does not care about his clients, he is not proactive, and he is mediocre at best on his knowledge.
