You can expect the capital of the United States of America to have some significant history attached to it. President George Washington himself chose a site along the Potomac River to become the capital city, Washington, DC.

The struggles throughout history did not leave out the nation’s capital. During the War of 1812, Washington, DC was attacked in an event known as the Burning of Washington.

The reconstruction of the major historical markers took a great deal of construction work, including rebuilding the White House and the Capitol building. Restoration of the downtown area took place with the McMillan Plan of 1901, and this is where many of the amazing monuments and the National Mall that we visit today came from.
