People v. Ortega

Outcome: Dismissed in furtherance of justice on 1/22/10

Description: This was a battery case that arose from a neighbor dispute. After careful review of the files I was able to ascertain that there had been some sloppy police work and that a deputy had come to the scene and told her not to press charges because it was "mutual combat" and that if she did, they would both go to jail. She was arrested 20 days later and taken into custody when she found me. I got her released OR and we fought the case all the way to the day of trial. We had witnesses on our side including one of the deputies who was not listed in the report! Case dismissed on last day per 1382!
