I called their office for a consultation. The secretary there called me back, and told me that she did not think I would be able to afford to pay for his representation. No one asked me about my earnings, or what I had intended for an attorney fee. I felt very disappointed. I also felt that maybe they did not feel that they could handle my case, or that it would be too time consuming.

We cannot thank Mr. Cobb enough for helping our son. Our son was away at college and we had to choose an attorney long distance. I believe our choice saved our son's life. On Mr. Cobb's advice, we had our son tested for medical and psychological problems and through these tests were able to help him. Mr. Cobb was able to deal with the charges and get our son on an intervention program instead of jail time. He influenced our son is a very positive way and helped him through a very difficult time. Mr. Cobb is truly a godsend to our son and all of us. This summer could have ended much differently if we had not had such an informed, competent attorney. I will forever be grateful for his help and we cannot recommend him highly enough.

Mr. Cobb worked very well to take care of the situation. He's very professional, knowledgeable, and stays as proactive as his clients. The only suggestions that I would make is to have more YouTube videos for the law firm. Under the initial consultation, if you don't record the conversation, you could always have the videos to refer back to. I suggest this to save time, and ease communication and worry. He has videos on YouTube, but not many. However, there is a ton of information on the website that you can and should go back to for guidance. If you are going through a situation, put your trust in this lawyer. I have no doubt that Mr. Cobb could handle any situation. If you’re the client, give as much information as possible. If you are not proactive enough to get back with your lawyer or their secretary, it stops them from moving on with the case. He’s well respected and knows his stuff; let him handle your case to the best of his ability. Great lawyer!
Lawyer’s Comment:
That is a top notch suggestion, and we are now implementing an entire series of videos based on your suggestion:
* General Florida Criminal Law Education
* Charge Specific Education
* Specific Things to Do and Not to Do
* How to be Prepared for Court
And a whole lot more - all from you suggestion! Thank you.

Mr. Cobb is a great attorney in Fort Walton Beach, FL. His specialty is criminal defense. He is very cool, calculated, punctual, to the point, and knows what he is talking about. He focuses on his cases one at a time giving attention to detail and does not get caught up in the chaos that many layers do when they try to take on too much at once. Mr. Cobb is very matter of fact and will be the first to tell you that he is not there to make you feel like everything is okay...his job is to get results, and he does his job well. He made no promises and did not care to talk about odds and statistics. It was a fast process and he delivered results. His staff is great and Janice, his assistant is truly a blessing. She will stop at nothing any time of the day to answer a question or provide assistance however she can. If you want an attorney who will tell it like it is, cut to the chase, give your case the time and attention it deserves; who is efficient as well as effective - Stephen Cobb should be at the top of your list. Maybe the ONLY name on your list.

I recently moved to Florida and was pulled over and cited for D.U.I. Mr. Cobb represented me in my defense of this charge. I chose Mr. Cobb because of the amount of time he spent discussing my case pro-bono before I ever even became his client. He took time to discuss all of my options and the probability of my successful defense of the charges before I ever committed to him as a client. He was extremely thorough in my defense and completely on top of everything.
Inside the 10-day appeal window, he was able to get me a temporary driving permit so that I could continue driving, which was critical for my work situation. Additionally, I was able to get my license returned to me in full when he successfully appealed to have my stop suppressed. The hearing concluded that the officer did not have sufficient cause for pulling me over and my license was returned.
Although I won this hearing, it has no bearing on the criminal aspect of the case itself. That is a separate part of the process. Although Mr. Cobb had demonstrated his ability to defend me, I could not use the fact that the hearing for reinstating my license had indicated that the officer didn’t have sufficient reason for pulling me over. I wasn’t weaving in traffic, speeding, or any other moving violation. Basically, I was on the road at 4 a.m. with out of state tags in Destin, and that was all that the officer needed to assume I had been drinking.
Because of my strong evidence in suppressing the stop, I was offered several plea bargains and I choose to accept a plea to a lesser charge the day before I was scheduled for trial. This was completely my decision and Mr. Cobb supported me either way I wanted to go on this. I just didn’t think it was worth the gamble and wasn’t in any position to be rolling the dice. I am extremely pleased with the outcome of my representation by Mr. Cobb and although I found him to be a fantastic lawyer, I hope that I never require his services again. But I am gladly referring him as a guy who knows the law and will work with you to all ends to win your case.

I was falsely accused of a crime that if I had been convicted of I would have been looking at 15 years in prison. Even though I had passed two polygraph tests and had DNA results that proved my innocence, I was still arrested. The judge that had me arrested was not aware of the polygraph test or the DNA results that proved I was innocent. Before I was arrested we were contacted by 2 law firms seeking money. After the arrest this became a high profile case and was in every newspaper and on every radio station within a 100 mile radius.
Even though the prosecuting attorney had 2 polygraph exams, exonerating DNA evidence and records that we were able to obtain proving that the accuser lied, it became clear that the prosecuting attorney would stop at nothing to win their case. In the end Mr. Cobb prevailed and I was found not guilty of the charge.
Not only is he the best attorney I have ever seen, he is the smartest person I have ever met. He conducted himself with professionalism and the highest integrity at all times. Mr. Cobb showed concern for the well being of myself and my family and gave us ways to deal with the stress.
Make no mistake about it, the prosecuting attorney will stop at nothing to convict you and I strongly urge you to have the best legal defense you can get . I believe that is Mr. Cobb!

Thank you for writing, Jule, I appreciate the feedback.
THE SHORT ANSWER
Jule, it appears you were screened out. An initial consultation is a minimum time commitment of two hours for my staff and I. Two hours for free.
HERE IS WHY YOU WERE PROBABLY SCREENED OUT
You said: "I also felt that maybe they did not feel that they could handle my case, or that it would be too time consuming."
If we can't "handle your case," then we won't take it. If "it would be too time consuming," then we won't either. My staff is instructed to grade and screen prospective clients just as you grade and screen prospective lawyers.
HOW LAW FIRMS GRADE PROSPECTIVE CLIENTS
Most law firms have a screening process and grade prospective clients on a scale.
For example, "A" Clients pay up front and are a pleasure to work with. "D" clients "slow pay/no pay," AND they are impossible to please, difficult people who try to tell me "what the law is."
Interesting that you used the phrase "too time consuming" since that phrase rarely refers to the case, it usually means "high maintenance, difficult person."
CONCLUSION
You want great legal services and we want great clients.
IF you would be a "C" or "D" client, then the staff did exactly what they are trained to do: politely tell you "no."
IF you were screened out in error, and would be an "A" or "B" client, then I apologize. Please call back I will gladly speak to you.
