Fraud Charges Dropped

Rebecca A Nitkin

Practice Area:Criminal Defense

Outcome:Fraud Charges were dropped

Description:Clement Azagba and Deborah Haigler had been accused of participating in a scheme to steal $14,000 in cash and food stamps from the Palmer Park office, said Roland Patterson, assistant state's attorney. "In continuing to review this case, it has become clear that it is not what it appeared to be," Patterson said. The shame of being falsely accused caused Azagba, 35, of Greenbelt, to resign from his job as a salaried caseworker, and he still is looking for work, said his attorney, Rebecca Nitkin. Haigler, a contractual clerical worker who formerly was on welfare, was fired from her job, officials said.
