Now in his 23rd year as a Philadelphia trial lawyer, Peter M. Newman represents plaintiffs in catastrophic personal injury litigation including products liability, medical malpractice, premises liability and other complex personal injury and wrongful death actions. Mr. Newman handles claims against insurance companies for clients who are victims of bad faith in the adjustment or defense of claims, and for clients who made claims for disability benefits that their insurers unreasonably denied. Mr. Newman has helped clients and their families obtain multi-million dollar settlements and verdicts against physicians and hospitals for failure to diagnose life-threatening conditions and for a variety of medical errors. He has also represented clients injured by defects in the design and manufacture of industrial machinery such as printing presses, forklifts and cranes, and of household products such as clothes dryers. He has developed considerable experience investigating the cause and origin of fires and swimming pool accidents and is actively involved in the prosecution of civil rights actions arising failure to provide medical care to prison inmates and from the excessive use of police force and from high-speed police pursuits that result in injury to innocent motorists and pedestrians.
In addition to his trial practice and other professional activities, Mr. Newman has been a speaker at continuing legal education programs for other attorneys, and has authored articles on trial-related issues. He has also served on the Board of Directors of Philadelphia VIP, which provides pro bono legal services for low-income residents and families facing civil legal problems that threaten their basic human needs – shelter, employment, financial stability, education and health.
In 2013, Mr. Newman was elected to a three year term on the Philadelphia Bar Association's Board of Governors.
