I am a certified elder law attorney through the National Elder Law Foundation as recognized by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court. In order to become a certified elder law attorney, the individual must demonstrate that he has handled a variety of cases associated with elder law, including, but not limited to, preparing and administering last wills, probating estates, preparing powers of attorney, counseling and assisting clients in Medicaid eligibility and preparing various types of trusts. Medicaid eligibility counseling provides clients with legally available options that may be utilized to protect assets from being spent down on the devastating costs of long term care, especially nursing home care. In addition, the attorney must attend several hours taking continuing legal education courses in elder law each year and provide recommendations from other certified elder law attorneys concerning his competency in the field. He must also successfully pass a comprehensive full day exam dealing with numerous elder law issues.
I am a member of the National Academy of Elder Law attorneys, the Pennsylvania Association of Elder Law attorneys and the Academy of Special Needs Planners. I have been a frequent speaker in elder law forums attended by other attorneys, accountants and financial advisors and have written various articles on elder law issues for presentation to forums of various professionals for continuing education credits in my fields of practice.
I am frequently contacted by other attorneys and financial consultants to answer questions or provide guidance on elder law, estate planning and special needs issues.
