About Me

By way of brief background, after I was admitted to the bar in 1983, I joined the firm my father had started several years earlier and engaged with him in a general and eclectic practice of law. Although this gave me valuable knowledge and experience in a wide variety of fields, eventually I recognized that, in order to truly excel as an attorney, I would have to focus my time, effort and attention on a single area of the law. I chose family law because it was the area that I enjoyed the most.

As a family law practitioner, I am equally at home in the courtroom and behind the desk. I have negotiated, drafted and critiqued scores of agreements: prenuptial, postnuptial, separation and the occasional cohabitation. As well, I have extensive experience both prosecuting and defending trials and hearings in the Supreme and Family Courts, including actions for divorce, equitable distribution, spousal maintenance, child support, custody and visitation. I have also handled numerous appeals and proceedings for enforcement and modification of judgments and agreements.

Over the course of 30+ years practicing as an attorney in Manhattan, I have had the opportunity and privilege to advise and represent literally thousands of clients, men and women, young and old, from all walks of life. I believe that it is my foremost responsibility to continuously improve my knowledge and skills in order to give each and every client nothing less than the best professional advice, counsel, and representation. Hence my motto: passion for the law; compassion for my clients.

  • Ian William MacLean

Every one of the people I have recommended speak with Keith Orenstein has called or emailed me with some version of "Thank you so much for putting me in touch with Keith. He is terrific." I have known Keith since 2005 and he is one of the most level headed, even tempered people I know. He is also an excellent and heavily experienced matrimonial attorney who listens to his clients and gets results. I have sent several clients and friends to Keith and will again without any hesitation.

  • Paul Holliday Wilson III

I have known Keith for years, and know many people who have either used his services personally or recommended his services to their friends, colleagues and/or clients. Keith is unwaveringly spoken of as an expert and an amazing guiding hand through what is one of the toughest areas of law in which to practice. He has the ability to approach matters gently when called for, or to be an aggressive pit-bull. I highly recommend Keith for anyone in need of an excellent family law attorney.
