I live in TN, and a friend of mines son was arrested for illegal drug trafficking at JFK in New York City. He was guilty of the charge, BUT had no idea what he had been asked to carry to NYC. This kid had never been arrested or in trouble for anything. He was however guilty of being young and dumb....perhaps a bit naive. Everyone we talked to had told us that because of the amount of drugs, 1 kilo of heroin, in his possession, that prison time was inevitable. We were looking at 10 yrs with no parole. Michael first told us that because of the amount of drugs that felt that he could get the prison sentence reduced but that would some prison time would have to be served. After meeting with our friend he then said that there might be a chance of getting the charges dropped. AND THAT IS JUST WHAT HAPPENED!! Michael was able to get the charges dropped and our friend acquitted! Needless to say we are so very grateful to Michael Paul for all that he did. He went well beyond his call of duty and we could not be any more pleased than we are for his services.
He is probably one of the best criminal attorney's in the country. But he is pompous and a know it all. If he gets your entire retainer up front he will take on other cases. First like any lawyer you have to pay him part but do not give it all to him. Even if you have it. Give it to him before he walks into each time you have to go to court. Otherwise your asking for problems because once he has your money it is almost like he feels like he is done with your case. BUT like I said he is an excellent attorney so do not discount him, just put enough bait on the hook to hire him and pay him as you go.
I was a client of Michael G. Paul’s in Metuchen, NJ. When he was first hired to represent me, he made a good first impression with a lot of promises, but really never followed through on any in my defense including any private investigation. His repeated explanation for his lack of responsiveness was, “It is what it is”, contrary to the opinions of 3 other attorneys I have had consultations with since then. I am now involved with the court of appeals years later with a top notch attorney who has a good record with AVVO. Had I chosen my own attorney at the time, I would have done some research first and Michael G. Paul would not have been my choice. However, I was incarcerated at the time on a false charge for which I was subsequently convicted after taking a plea deal (which was no “deal” at all). Other highly rated lawyers were incredulous that my case lead to a plea deal. I now have a very good lawyer with an excellent professional conduct rating on AVVO.com, and continue to work towards undoing the avoidable injustice which occurred years ago at great personal and financial expense.
He was very good, he helped me get Probation on my federal case, i was facing twenty years, hes a good choice.
