    Very Unprofessional

I was referred to this attorney by Hyatt Legal Plans to create a will, living will, and power of attorney. In the beginning, Joseph Rutigliano talked to me on the phone directly, and was very helpful, answering all of my questions in a kind and professional manner. However, right after I gave him my information to put in my will, that's where everything started to fall apart. He was very clumsy -- he put other people's names as my child's guardians, meaning he basically copy-pasted other people's information into my will, or used another person's will as a template to create mine. He was pretty responsive in sending me an amended/corrected will, but at the same time it seemed like all he cared about was creating another will for my wife to add her as his client. After all of the corrections were made on December 18, 2014, he emailed me saying he'd be on vacation for the holidays. It is now February 4, 2015, and he still hasn't replied to any of my emails. I called Hyatt Legal Plans today, who then called his office. Only then his assistant called me later today in an annoyed tone of voice to set up an appointment to notarize my will. She said office hours are 9AM to 5PM, so when I said I'd visit at 9AM, she then said "but I might not be here at 9." This was right after she told me their office hours. After that she said I needed to bring three strangers as witnesses to notarize my will, and that they couldn't help provide witnesses themselves. All of my other colleagues that used Hyatt Legal Plans were able to complete their wills and have them notarized at their lawyers' offices (who provided witnesses for them) within weeks! This is taking me two months (including 1.5 months when I got no responses from them at all), and I'm still stuck in a position where I have to ask three of my friends to take a half day at work just to get my will notarized because obviously their one-person office is closed on the weekends. I definitely do not recommend Joseph Rutigliano. I really regret doing business with them.

Joseph A Rutigliano’s response: “This review is nothing more than a spiteful and baseless indictment of the American small business and, of course, of solo practitioners. As anyone who reads this this review will note, Mr. Park’s displeasure surrounds the size of my office and my choices as a father, husband and small business owner, and not my legal knowledge or ability. It seems that I am not allowed to take a vacation with my family during the holidays, I must employ three assistants, whether I need that much help or not, just in case Mr. Park should want to use them as witnesses and those three assistants must work late into the night or on the weekends for his convenience. That is not how this country works Mr. Park. I am one attorney and have one assistant. I have a family who I work for and I enjoy spending time with. Mr. Park, would do well to remember that family comes first. The law requires three witnesses to a will. Those witnesses cannot be people who take under the will for obvious reasons. That is the law, not my rules. I advised Mr. Park to use a notary in December as I would be on vacation during the time he wished to execute his will. I was never contacted by him in any way for a month and a half after that. I would have had no way of knowing the documents weren’t executed in 2014. You will note, however, that after receiving a single call about this my office contacted him that same day to set up an appointment at 9:00 am the very next day. I drafted 32 pages of documents for Mr. Park with a single typographical error that was immediately corrected once it was pointed out. It appears to me that Mr. Park thinks lawyers sit down with a quill and a bottle of ink and prepare a handwritten document for each client. Again, this is not how it works Mr. Park. We use drafting software and occasionally import a section here and there if we had written a similar bequest for another client and that piece of writing sticks out in our minds. This practice ensures the legal language will be correct and the document can be delivered to a demanding client much quicker. The bottom line here is this; America was proudly built with the help of small businesses. I, like over 16.4 million other Americans, proudly run such a business. Mr. Park (who doesn’t leave his name in the review) may not understand the way things work, but he did receive a perfectly drafted will and ancillary documents and he received them promptly. Every time my office was actually contacted (as opposed to not being contacted for a month and a half) he received a quick and informative answer to any and all questions, as do all of my clients. Someday my children will grow up, and when they do they may wish to spend more time with their friends and less time with me. Until that day Mr. Park I will work for them then go home to them. I will do this with the amount of assistance I feel I require and during normal, professional business hours: 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, five days per week.”

    Joe Rutigliano-honest, hard-working attorney

Joe has handled various legal work for me over the years, including but not limited to, home closings, landlord- tenant, and tax appeals. His advice has been dead on, and I am very satisfied with his professionalism and promptness. My closing and tax appeal were completely painless. After handing off all pertinent information, I just sat back and Joe handled everything. His guidance on my landlord/tenant situation has put my mind at ease, and helped the situation tremendously.

    Honesty, competency and thoroughness

Joseph is an extremely competent, thorough, and honest attorney. My experience with Joe is that he will always does whatever it takes to do it right for his client. Joe has handled several closings for me, one of which took more time and effort than what would normally be expected. But Joe took the time and effort to work through all issues in order to get the deal done.
