VA home loan entitlement lost in divorce, does my ex have to pay for half of the reinstatement amount?
My ex and I had a VA loan from my benefit on our house. We had to short sale and now I have a compromise on my entitlement to use my benefit again for a new loan. The amount is $34,000 to pay back the VA and get my entitlement benefit back to 100% for a new loan. Is she liable for half that $34,000 since we owned the home together?
Frankly, this is a question very few attorneys will be able to answer off the top of their heads. I sure can't.
This is general advice. You are anonymous. If you PM me I won’t know what it’s about. I don't use a Chatbot to draft my posts. Chatbots are way nicer than I am. I'm an actual human, rumors to the contrary notwithstanding. You may wish to try using a Chatcot yourself.
Your question should be directed to your divorce attorney. If you did not retain an experienced CA divorce attorney then you really need to retain one. Good luck. THIS IS NOT LEGAL ADVICE! YOU NEED TO SPEAK TO AN ATTORNEY WHO IS LICENSED IN YOUR STATE FOR LEGAL ADVICE. This is merely suggestions for you to think about in discussing your situation with the local attorney.
