Looking for a No Nonsense, Hard-Ball Father's advocate lawyer
Looking for a lawyer that doesn't play with the Mother/Father stereotypes and is willing to fight hard for the CHILD's best interests. Need one that knows what he's doing when fighting a biased courtroom. Preferably one that knows the judges in the area too.
If you have played an active, involved role in your child's life then you should expect a fair result in court if you properly present your case. On the other hand, if you have been slow to establish your parental rights and a visitation schedule while your child's mother has done the bulk of the child rearing do not expect the court to reward you with a "50/50" schedule. Judge Craig is as fair as they come. Get a consult with a local family law attorney who can advise you of your best approach based on the specific facts of your case.
You mentioned you need one that knows what "he's" doing. There are plenty of female attorneys that will fight just as hard for you. Don't limit yourself. You may also look at asking the court to appoint a guardian ad litem. They are attorneys whose only interest is what's in the best interest of the child.
Amanda, I agree with you 100%. The bulk of what I do is custody and represented both men and women. There is no prejudice against men in my county. Whether one is represented by a male or female makes no difference. One of my favorite people to try cases in court against is a woman here in town. She's tough and I enjoy it. But, now we have firms advertising how they represent men only and somehow I guess men are supposed to get excited by it but the fact, the legal standard on custody doesn't change based on the gender of the attorney. The guy would probably hate my county. We have a female judge and the magistrates are all females but, men do win custody cases here based upon the facts. I think the ads sometimes are a ploy to make money. We have an attorney that kind of did it by advertising but it didn't work out well for him.
Amanda, that's the only thing you found sexist in the asker's question?
Brent, there's at least three references but it's the overall tenor that comes through. The problem is if it comes through in a trial it puts a person in the hole.
Yeah, I was joking.
The sad part is, the guy isn't
Based on your tone, I think you may be looking for an attorney or firm that calls themselves a "father's rights" or "men's rights" attorney in divorce cases. Try looking under these categories in a general search.
Anastatia Quirk Ellis, Esq. is licensed to practice law in Florida, Massachusetts and U.S. Tax Court. This answer is provided as general information and does not initiate an attorney-client relationship. I have never met you, and we have never spoken directly. I am not your lawyer.
I agree that you can search Avvo for a qualified attorney. You can also call the Florida Bar or your local Bar Association. Ask friends and family for referrals as well. Best of luck.
